OTAHUHU BUSINESS ASSOCIATION BUSINESS PLAN 2014/2015 SECURITY Aim: Show that Otahuhu is a safe place to visit, shop, work, live and invest. Outcome: Everyone feels more comfortable in Otahuhu 1.1 Police We continue to work closely with Police on crime/safety related issues. We will continue to hold crime prevention meetings to increase awareness around crime and crime reporting. 1.2 Security Janice, our daytime security officer, continues to keep her finger on the pulse in regards to security and related issues. We now have a second security officer Sharon who works Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We hope Sharon will be able to be full time during 2015. We will continue nightly mobile patrols seven days a week. 1.3 CCTV We are introducing 21 new CCTV cameras into the commercial area of Otahuhu and a further 40+ CCTV cameras into the Otahuhu town centre. 1.4 Zero Tolerance Programme We continue to have a zero tolerance for graffiti. Dave our handyman we will endeavour to keep our town graffiti free and with Dave’s skills are now able to offers members small handyman jobs, for example; gutter clearing and repairs. BRANDING Aim: Promote Otahuhu as a great place for investors, businesses, shoppers, and visitors. Outcome: investors, businesses, shoppers and visitors want to move to, come to and invest in Otahuhu. 2.1 Review Branding We are looking at re-introducing the Otahuhu Business Association name to fit in line with our new retail / commercial mix and larger boundaries. 2.2 Website We have a new web site www.otahuhumainstreet.co.nz being developed. It has amongst other things a detailed business directory of the Otahuhu area. 2.3 Social Media We have employed Jerry to work 10hrs a week making sure our social media platforms are always updated and current. PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITY Aim: Promote Otahuhu as a place to do business. Outcome: Increased customer loyalty, new business and an increased awareness of everything Otahuhu offers. 3.1 Promotional Calendar Our calendar of events include: Santa Parade Family Fun Day (OMCA in support) Easter Health Expo Support / Shop Local Promotion Otahuhu Food Festival White Sunday (2x) 12 Days till Christmas.....the list goes on 3.2 Radio/Print We will continue our branding and sub branding (car yard cap etc) with radio and print advertising. We have recently advertised on buses with great results. We will design and introduce and range of specific and niche marketing materials to suit or target diverse markets. 3.3 Otahuhu Business Guide We are updating our business directory to include businesses in the new boundaries. VISUAL Aim: Enhance Otahuhu’s physical environment so that coming into Otahuhu is a great experience Outcome: Local community and afar support the Otahuhu businesses and therefore increase Otahuhu’s economic development. 4.1 General Cleanliness We will tender our willingness to take on the street cleaning contract for Otahuhu on behalf of Auckland Council We continue to conduct regular inspections of the area and report any issues to the appropriate agency. 4.2 Footpaths We are working with retailers on their display of goods, trying to encourage them to keep their goods in their stores. We are advocating for the replacement of the current cobbled footpaths in the town cente. 4.3 Buildings We are currently working with retailers and building owners on replacement of verandah sign boards. We will pay for the purchase and installation of new verandah sign boards including the street number. The retailer can then have them signwritten. We are also working with building owners, offering subsidised, basic building painting. 4.4 Urban Design We have been in constant contact with Auckland Council/Auckland Transport and Mangere/Otahuhu Local board planners in regards to any planned works in the area. This is not only to make sure we know all the information in order to pass onto our members but to have input and lobby where necessary for the betterment of the Otahuhu area. 4.5 Digital Noticeboard The noticeboard is available for use by all members to advertise their business or services. It is also used to showcase any information related to the area. The noticeboard is touch screen giving us the ability to undertake customer surveying.
