Performance Rating Definition Guidelines Levels of Performance Definition Guidelines/Examples (each point may not apply in all situation) 4 Exceeds Expectations The objective/standard is clearly and substantially surpassed. Examples: Unusual or complex problems were solved in order to meet and exceed performance objectives Major problems or obstacles were overcome to meet or exceed the objective Value was added because the objective was met ahead of schedule The objective was met substantially under the targeted budget The completion of the objective increased customer satisfaction substantially more than expected 3 Meets Expectations The objective/standard is met. A job well done includes: Action plan deadlines or budgeted amounts were met The quality of the work product met appropriate standards The completion of the objective received some praise or recognition from customers Results were delivered as expected 2 Approaches Expectations The objective/standard was eventually met or a significant portion of it was met; some performance/behavioral aspects were not met as expected. Examples include: The objective was met but not within the time frame determined A significant portion of the objective was met but full results were not achieved Budgets/costs exceeded what was expected The quality of the result did not fully meet the customers requirements Requires occasional redirection and reminders to meet expectations 1 Unacceptable The objective/standard either was not met, or was met in a fashion that was contrary to the College’s values. Examples include: A majority of the objective or supporting action plans were not met Most if not all deadlines were missed Budget or cost overruns were significant Standards of quality were not met Continual or close supervision was needed to complete the assignment or significant aspects of it Objective was not met due to controllable problems encountered; insufficient action was taken by employee to resolve the situation Competency Ratings Examples Exceeds Expectations Rating Descriptor (4) Consistently and significantly exceeds all expectations and standards. Consistently meets all expectations. May be a composite performance of Exceeds, Meets, and Approaching. Approaching Expectations Rating Descriptor (2) Occasionally falls short of consistently meeting expectations and standards. Correctable behaviors. Results Orientation Makes decisions, sets priorities or chooses goals on the basis of College Goals and Strategic Plans. Actively seeks challenging assignments. Generally meets standards of performance. Performance without thought and little concern for quality. Customer Service Consistently goes beyond what is asked to ensure customer satisfaction. Develops service standards/ performance metrics for self and others. Fails to develop standards/ performance metrics for self or others. Consistently passes problems to others. Problem Solving Creates significant efficiencies within operations by successfully integrating AQIP methodologies. Prioritizes tasks and activities. Often goes with the first solution without adequate analysis. Makes a decision without completing the analysis. Teamwork Handles team disputes using respectful confrontation. Informs team members of new developments and helps the team keep current about issues affecting the group. Occasionally co-operates to complete team assignments Concentrates on personal outcomes. Asks for challenging assignments. Proactively seeks out new methods and technology in own field. Has difficulty learning and transferring new skills to the job. Fails to use self development.
