The following questions can be answered preferably a few sentences for each one: 1. What inspired you to pursue a career in advertising? a. My experience as an account executive has taught me a lot about the details of creating an effective advertising strategy that builds new business and grows a company as well as how to communicate on multiple levels. I’ve experienced big and small businesses and startup companies. I’ve also experienced office structure and working in and out of the office or sometimes on the road. b. Outside of work, you also experience the fun perks such taking clients golfing, traveling to fun locations for “work conferences” or even getting a CBS suite at the stadium for a Dallas Cowboys game because of how much business we do with them. There are a lot of cool things to experience in this industry. 3. What are some of the best skills and tools you’ve learned while pursuing your career? a. Communication, project management, organization, prioritizing deadlines, multi-tasking, managing daily client needs, advertising strategy, budgeting and sales. All these skills are key in a good account executive. 4. What are some of your greatest accomplishments and satisfactions in your work? a. My most satisfying and greatest accomplishment as an AE at Miller was being able to take one of my clients (a start-up app company) and build them into a major competitor in the online market of buying and selling goods consumer to consumer. We’ve now successfully launched them in several different markets across the county and have over 2.5 million downloads and counting. It’s a great accomplishment of ours as an agency and was great to be a part of their company from the ground up! It’s called 5miles App. Tell your friends to download 5. What are some of your greatest challenges in your work? a. With balancing several clients on a daily basis, you have to be very detail oriented and organized. Sometimes it’s easy for things to fall through the cracks or miss deadlines if you’re not paying attention to all the details. 6. What are the greatest changes that you predict in the future of advertising and marketing communications? a. How we target and speak to consumers. As the latest devices and wearable technology evolve, I see advertisement shifting toward live real-time interaction with consumers. Targeting based on where we are, what we’re doing, who we’re with or what we’ve been shopping for online. All these things effecting what type of advertising we receive. There won’t be any more blanket advertising where you hit everyone who watches a TV show but may never buy your product. We’ll be able to target only consumers our ads are relevant to and are knowingly in the market for our products or services. That’s my guess, but is already happing on some level with certain digital media. 7. How did you prepare yourself for the profession and how did you get into it? a. I prepared for the profession by Majoring in Mass Communications in college. I got into advertising by simply researching ad agencies in the DFW area and taking interviews where I could get them and where I saw myself fitting in best. 8. What do your normal days look like? How does your work look like in the whole picture of your agency? a. My typical day consists of managing each of my client’s daily marketing and advertising needs and facilitating all production for media they advertise in. From TV/Radio to Eblasts, SEM, Web Banners or SEO and more. Each of these media are handled in a separate departments, and it is the AE’s job to coordinate all the internal production to get each ad where it needs to be. Rather that’s sending a TV or radio spot to a station or communicating ideas and concepts to our designers so they can create the best ad possible for our clients. 9. If you were to give any advice to future workers in the advertising agency, what would you say? a. Stay focused and organized, but have fun! Don’t sweat the small stuff. Also, get to know your clients and build a relationship with them outside of daily business. I find the more you do that, the easier they are to work with and the more you find yourself motivated to keep doing better for them and driving them to success. 10.Where do you see yourself in the near future (next five years)? a. I see myself still working in advertising and climbing the latter of the ad agency structure. I’m currently an AE but look forward advancing to Sr. AE and possibly Head of Accounts in the future.
