PROBLEM: The problem that we are
investigating in this project is the
water quality.
BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE
•ALL LIVING THINGS NEED WATER TO
SURVIVE
•pH IS A MEASUREMENT OF THE ACIDIC
AND BASIC QUALITY OF WATER
•USEFUL SUBSTANCES INCLUDE
DISSOLVED OXYGEN
•TEMPERATURE AFFECTS THE AMOUNT OF
DISSOLVED OXYGEN IN THE WATER
•SOME HARMFUL SUBSTANCES INCLUDE
NITRATES AND PHOSPHATES
•NITRATES ARE NEEDED BY PLANTS AND
ANIMALS TO BUILD PROTEIN, BUT TO
MUCH CAN BE HARMFUL
•PHOSPHATE IS AN ESSENTIAL NUTRIENT FOR
PLANTS AND ANIMALS GROWTH, BUT CAN BE
DANGEROUS IF THERE’S TOO MUCH
BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE II
• pH of natural water is between 6.5 and 8.5
•Dissolved oxygen is important for animals to
live in the water
•Most aquatic animals are adapted to a certain
pH level and could die if it changes
•Temperature is vital to water quality
HYPOTHESIS: If we analyze tap water
then,it might have a low amount of
nitrates.
Independent Variable:Type of Water Sample
Dependant Variable:Outcome of parameters
tested
EXPERIMENT
Constants:Amount of water,number of tablets
used,the same chemicals
Control:No control
Procedures:
• First
we collected water samples from the creek,
pond, taps and bottles
•
Second we tested the
temperature,nitrates,pH,phosphates,and dissolved
oxygen for each type of water
•
Third we matched the result color from the tests
to a little chart indicating what the colors meant
•
Later we recorded the results from the tests
performed
•
Lastly we cleaned up and put the equipment away as
directed

Conclusion
● The water quality was tested for all 4 water
types(pond,creek,bottled,and tap)
● From our results we found that all water types had
an excellent pH,dissolved oxygen,nitrates,and
phosphates
● All the pH were excellent for life as well as the
level of phosphates,dissolved oxygen,and nitrates
that also allow life
● Each water’s results were exceptional and all could
maintain life
● In conclusion all the water are drinkable but the
pond and creek waters are not clean enough to drink
and they all can support living organisms
