Comparing and Contrasting Cell Types

Create a Venn Diagram or a chart to compare and contrast Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cells.
Determine whether each of the following statements is describing a prokaryotic cell, a
eukaryotic cell, or both, and place it in the appropriate area on your diagram or chart. Please
use your notes, textbook, and/or a reliable internet source.
You may complete this by creating a chart on your laptop, or you may do so by hand using your
own paper. Please turn in this assignment when you are finished.
-Have DNA as genetic material
-Have cell walls
-Lack a nucleus
-DNA found in the nucleus
-Have organelles
-Contain cytoplasm
-E. Coli has this type of cell
-Can transfer DNA using conjugation
pili
-Larger and more complex
-Smaller and less complex
-Human made of this type of cells
-Lack organelles
-Have a cell membrane
-DNA in a region of cytoplasm called
the nucleoid
-Have a nucleus
-Have ribosomes
When you have completed this assignment, draw a prokaryotic cell, making sure
to include all of the following structures or components: nucleoid, cytoplasm,
ribosomes, cell membrane, cell wall, glycocalyx (or capsule), flagella, conjugation
pilus, and fimbriae. Using the colored pencils, make each different cell part a
different color. Make sure to label your drawing, or provide a key. Turn your
drawing in once you are finished.
*You may refer to pictures in your textbook or on the internet while drawing your
picture.
