Overview
This lesson will help students to practice using English adjectives
correctly.

Objectives
Students will correctly identify the physical characteristics given
pictures of people in the Guess Who game using English words.

-Guess Who games
-Quiz PowerPoint
Procedures
1. The teacher will introduce the lesson to the students.
1.1. The teacher will tell the students that they will be learning about
physical characteristics using English words.
1.2. The teacher will tell the students that there will be a whole class
review, and they then will be playing a game to practice their
words.
2. The teacher will open the PowerPoint using the projector.
3. The teacher will spend 10 minutes going through the Power Point
showing students the vocabulary words and instruct the students to
take notes over the words.
3.1. The teacher will show the students the pictures on the power
point slides, say the English word and then tell them what it
means in Spanish.
3.2. The teacher will have the students repeat the English word out
loud.
3.3. The teacher will do this for all 18 vocabulary words.
4. The teacher will shut down the power point and instruct the students
to get into pairs and fine a place to sit together somewhere around
the room on the floor or at desks.
5. The teacher will have one student from each partner set retrieve a
Guess Who game set.
6. The teacher will spend 5 minutes walking students through the rules
of Guess Who.
7. The teacher will instruct the students to use English adjectives while
playing the game.
7.1. For the first 20 minutes, the students may use their notes from
the Power Point to help them during the game.
7.2. The teacher will be going around to check that each student
took notes on the PowerPoint and will check their name off on a
list to given points to.
8. The teacher will be walking around the classroom listening in on the
conversations to make sure the students are using English words.
9. The teacher will let the students play Guess Who for 20 minutes.
10. After playing for 20 minutes, the teacher will instruct the students to
put away their PowerPoint notes.
11. The students will continue to play Guess Who without their notes for
15 minutes.
12. The teacher will continue walking around the classroom listening in
on conversations to make sure students are using English words.
13. When the 15 minutes is up, the teacher will instruct the students to
pack up the Guess Who games.
14. The teacher will tell the students to put the Guess Who games away
and return to their desks.
15. The teacher will instruct the students to get out a black piece of
notebook paper and a pencil.
16. The teacher will tell the students to put their name at the top of the
paper.
17. The teacher will then open the Quiz PowerPoint.
17.1.
The teacher will instruct the students to look at each slide
which will contain an English term and have the students write
down the meaning of the word in Spanish.
17.2.
The teacher will say the English word out loud for every
slide and give the students one minute per slide to write down
the correct corresponding Spanish word.
17.3.
The teacher will do this for all 18 slides.
18. The teacher will close the PowerPoint.
19. The teacher will walk around and collect all the quizzes.
20. The teacher will take the quizzes back to their desk and put them in
a folder.
21. The teacher will announce that it is time to move on to the next
subject.
Assessment
o The students will be given 5 points for taking notes during the
Power Point.
o The students will be awarded 20 participation points for playing the
game with a partner while using English adjectives and not acting
out.
o The students will be given 1 point for every word they correctly
identify on the quiz out of 15.
Target audience: 6th and 7th graders with low to moderately low understanding of English, effective for boys
and girls. Applicable in schools with low levels of technology and large class sizes.
Part B:
Our lesson was inspired by a similar lesson that had been taught at Holly’s high school. Her Spanish teacher
used the Guess Who game to practice physical traits using words in Spanish, so we figured it would work just
as well the other way around. We used JetPack to make sure we had all the correct aspects of the lesson plan.
We got the vocabulary words out of Holly’s Spanish 201 text book that she is currently using in class because
they just did a section over physical characteristics.
