Senior Project Brainstorming

Objective: Propose two different ideas for your senior project. These ideas need to have contrast,
meaning that they should be quite different from one another. Explore the options that your general topic
(BLOB topic) can allow for potential projects. Then, obtain feedback from adults who could serve as
mentors for each project idea using the forms provided with this document.
PART I: BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Record the General area of interest (blob):

Directions: Download and save this form from the Senior Project website. In the large boxes below,
type your responses to the questions posed under each bolded word in the small boxes to the left. Use
Times New Roman, 12 point font. The boxes will expand as you type, if you need more room. Your
responses must be in complete sentences. Answer ALL questions thoroughly.

WHAT:
 What do you want to do
for your project? Be
specific – include lots of
details!
 What prior knowledge or
experience do you have
with this topic/activity?
For my senior project, I would like to host a viewing of the movie The
Outsiders, since it relates to gang violence, as a fundraiser for a Pittsburgh
women/youth shelter, since women and children are often victims of gang
related crimes. I know that women and children often suffer from gang
violence and gang-related crime. I also know that The Outsiders is a classic
film that demonstrates the hazards of gang violence.

WHERE:

For my second senior project plan, I would like to collect donations for
Pittsburgh women/youth shelters. I will do this by collecting items such as
clothes, books, and preserved food products both in school and around the
community. I really do not know much about how to go about this yet, but that
is something I will learn by completing the project.
Collecting donations for a Pittsburgh women/youth shelter may be done over
the course of a few months, allowing plenty of time for advertising s well as
collection. By requesting the necessary time off of work as soon as possible, I
will avoid any conflicts I may have with time management.
Organizing, advertising, and collecting may be done both in school as well as
in the community and at home.

This project is important to me because I am a female adolescent, therefore I
can empathize with the women and youths who have suffered gang related
crime and violence. After knowing and meeting a plethora of women and
children who have been abused, I have become passionate about helping the
individuals who have suffered through some kind of absuse.
What sticks out most about this project is that it will be the first fundraising
event I have organized and arranged, in addition to participating in it; this kind
of responsibility will be a first for me. This is related to my research paper
because both women and children are primary victims of gang related violence
and crime.
PART III:
Directions: After completing Parts I and II, and printing out both Project Idea Charts, share each Project
Idea chart with the adult you named in the “WHO” section. This person should be someone who could
potentially serve as your mentor for that Project Idea.
Discuss your project with this adult (known as your “Adult Resource”) and ask him or her to complete
the Adult resource form that corresponds with the project idea you outlined.
Adult Resources must be 21 years of age or older; must have expertise in the area you are pursing for
your project; and cannot be a relative.
Both Adult Resource forms must be completed by the adult individuals (not by you).
You must turn in both Adult Resource forms with your completed “Project Brainstorming
Assignment” on the specified due date.
This form must be completed by the Adult Resource.

This form must be completed by your parent/guardian.
Parent/Guardian Acknowledgment Form
As parent/guardian of ________________________________________, I am aware that
students formally propose their senior projects at the start of the senior year, and the document that I
sign here is a brainstorming assignment to prepare for that selection next year and is not the actual
senior project proposal. However, I acknowledge the ideas presented by my student and tentatively
approve of his/her ideas at this stage of project development.
Although the student has discussed and will continue to discuss the Senior Project with teachers
and staff, I fully understand that the selection of the project component and the student’s mentor(s) are
decisions made independently of the staff and the administration of the high school. All consequences of
the project choice, cost, production, or experience, unless otherwise stated, rest solely with the student
and parent. I also realize the project must in some way be related to the research paper and
represent learning that goes beyond anything my son/daughter has accomplished previously.
Briefly state the focus of your student’s Senior Project Research Paper:

Student Acknowledgement
I, _________Savannah Shreve__________________ understand that this project brainstorming
assignment is one step in the project development process. My actual senior project proposal will
be completed at the start of my senior year, and this assignment can be used to help me
