Jellyfish • Jellyfish differ in size, they can be as big as a human or can be the size of a pinhead. • Jellyfish don’t have brains. • Only some Jellyfish have eyes. • A group of Jellyfish is called a smack. Stingray • Stingrays do not have bones, instead their bodies are all cartilage. • The Stingrays’ tail is armed for defense. • A Stingray’s mouth is on the underside of its body. • Stingrays eat mussels, crabs, shrimp, clams, and oysters. They crush these by using their strong jaw. Octopus • A female octopus is called a hen. • They can lay up to 100 thousand eggs. • An octopus sees the same thing upside down as they do right side up. • Octopi like to stay hidden in dark places. Blue Whale • Blue Whale is the largest animal in the world. • The heart of a Blue Whale is the size of a small car. • They are also the loudest animal on Earth. • The Blue Whale eats about 6-7 tons of krill a day. Cleaner Shrimp • Cleaner Shrimp eat the parasites off of fish, coral and other organisms. • From this relationship, the organisms have their parasites removed and the shrimp gain nutritional value. • To attract a “client” the cleaner shrimp perform a “rocking dance”. Sea Turtle • Sea Turtles are one of the Earth’s most ancient creatures. • The Sea Turtle ranges in color from yellow, greenish and black, depending on species. • Unlike other turtles, Sea Turtles cannot retract their heads or legs into their shells. • Sea Turtles diet includes jellyfish, seaweed, crabs, shrimp, sponges, snails, algae and mollusks. Starfish • There are over 2,000 different species oof starfish. • If a starfish gets chopped into pieces, each piece can grow a whole new starfish. • Most starfish have 5 arms, but some can have as many as 12. • Starfish have no brains and their body contains no blood. Clownfish • Clownfish can be orange, yellow, maroon and many other colors. • Clownfish are between two and five inches long. • Clownfish like to hang out around anemones because the anemone has poisonous tentacles that paralyzes fish and the Clownfish eat the left over that the anemones does not finish. • Clownfish live on the ocean floor.
