Summary of the Law-Jesus replied:
Love the Lord your God with all your
heart and with all your soul and with
all your mind. This is the first and
greatest commandment. And the
second is like it: “Love your neighbor
as yourself.” Matthew 22:37-39
Why was the law given
• To provide a standard of righteousnessDeuteronomy 4:2,8
• It was as schoolmaster-Galatians 3:19-24
• To expose and identify sin-Romans 3:20
• To reveal the holiness and power of God
Deuteronomy 4:32-36
How does the law affect us?
For what the Law was powerless to do in that it
was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by
sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man
to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in
sinful man, in order that the righteous
requirements of the law might be fully met in us,
who do not live according to the sinful nature
but live according to the Spirit. Romans 8:3-4
