Course Description: This course addresses the features of Microsoft Word. It will provide
students with the basic concepts required to produce common business documents, such as:
creating a document, managing files, using the Help function, editing a document, formatting
text and using text enhancements, formatting paragraphs, using document layout features,
proofing and printing a document, inserting graphic elements, and controlling page
appearances. Students will be: using and creating templates and wizards; increase their
knowledge of Microsoft Word by adding and formatting components, such as: modifying
pictures; creating customized graphic elements.
Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the students should be able to
understand how to use Microsoft Word in the following areas:
1. Manage the Microsoft Word environment.
2. Organize and arrange text in Microsoft Word.
3. Format content using Microsoft Word.
4. Apply word functions to documents in Microsoft Word.
5. Apply page layout and reusable content in Microsoft Word.
6. Include illustrations and graphics in documents in Microsoft Word.
7. Structure documents in Microsoft Word.
8. Customize the appearance and behavior of Word 2010
9. Apply references and hyperlinks in Microsoft Word.
10. Maintain, collaborate and share documents with other in Microsoft Word.
11. Integrate and import data from other sources in Microsoft Word.
12. Demonstrate proper language arts skills, including proofreading and editing skills.
13. Apply critical thinking skills to all assigned activities.
14. Create an electronic portfolio.
15. Demonstrate skills and knowledge necessary for entry level computing positions.
Prerequisites: None
Assignments: All assignments will be submitted electronically through ebackpack/Gmail
Grading: Grading scale is based on Woodbridge Township School District established grading
policy. Marking period assignments are distributed as follows:
Major Assessments – (Tests & Longer Projects) – 50%
Minor Assessments – (Quizzes & Shorter Projects) – 50%
Final Exam: 20% of final grade for the course
Exams: MOS Certification Word Exam (Final Exam) to be administered on a date to be
determined. In the event a student is absent on the last day of the marking period, the final
exam policy established by WTSD applies.
