Use your world climate map to help you separate the types of
climates based on location in high, mid, low or anywhere
categories. Make four columns , one for high, one for mid, one
for low and one for anywhere!
For example: Tropical wet and dry is found only in the …..

*Remember LEMPOSA are factors that affect
climate. In other words they are the conditions that
help create a specific type of climate.
*Do not confuse this with characteristics of a
climate which are how much precipitation the
climate area gets and also it’s temperature range. In
other words, how a person would describe what
it is like in a certain climate region. (note cards!)
1. What climate type has “permafrost bogs”?
*Remember, write your answer and quietly wait!
Now, compare your answer to your partner. Did you get the
same thing? Discuss who is correct, justify your answer by using
your reference material if you need to.
The correct answer gets the point, please put a tally mark at the top
of your page each time you score it is possible that you BOTH
get the point.
TUNDRA IS THE ANSWER
Make up a definition for “permafrost bog”
with your partner.
Permafrost is permanently frozen sub-soil. Sub means below
the ground. And permanently means ALWAYS.
So…. if an area has the top layer frozen and it melts, the water
has nowhere to go.
Especially if the region is flat, the permafrost cannot absorb the water.
So basically, a “permafrost bog” is a cold swamp.
Just east of the Ural Mountains is the West Siberian Plain,
which turns into the world’s largest swamp during its short
warm period.
2. What type of climate and what type of vegetation best fit this picture?
TROPICAL HUMID CLIMATE: TROPICAL RAINFOREST VEGETATION
What LEMPOSA factor is most responsible for creating this climate?
LATITUDE!
Latitude Range: found all over the world
Global Position: Rocky Mountain Range in
North America, the Andean mountain range
in South America, the Alps in Europe, Mt.
Kilimanjaro in Africa, the Himalayans in
Tibet, Mt. Fuji in Japan

Weather and Climate in Kazakhstan.
What climate factor explains the extreme difference in
summer and winter temperatures?
PROXIMITY TO WATER, OR CONTINENTALITY!!
This is a land of climatic
extremes -- hot as an
oven in the summer and
bitterly cold in the
winter. The best time to
visit most of the country
is April-June or
September-October,
when the day
temperatures are cool.
Hikers and mountain
climbers will want to go
in summer: While the
rest of the country is
burning up in the
summer, the mountains
are at their best.
In what zone of latitude is this part of Africa located?
LOW
Describe the vegetation and climate you see in this picture. Include
the LEMPOSA factor or factors that create these conditions.
Two climates are happening in this picture………………………..
*Low latitudes- near the equator
*Tropical Wet and Dry climate
*Savanna- tropical grassland
*Elevation- the higher you go, the
colder it gets…even at the equator
*Highland climate- notice the ice

What word best describes the
mid-latitude seasonal climate?
TEMPERATE!
What characteristics of the Earth
create seasonal climate in the mid
latitudes?
Tilt and change in circumference.
