Units
• Subjects are called Units of Competency
• Some class times have more than 1 unit
• Multiple assessments during the semester rather
than just at the end of semester
• Student assessment guides for each unit will be
handed out in each class and available on the wiki.
This will include the assessment policy and resubmit
rules.

Competency Based Units
• You have been enrolled in units of competency for
the accounting and banking courses.
• This requires your teachers to determine whether
you are competent in each unit.
• We have to collect evidence to support your
competency in the unit.
• This may be a combination of class test and
assignments done at home.
Attendance in every class
is very important.

Diarise everything in your lives:
• TAFE classes
• Homework
• Collection of evidence dates
• Assignment due dates
• Sport, recreation and entertainment dates
• Family commitments
• Allocate an adequate amount of time for study on a
regular basis.

Home Study
• For every hour of class time, do approximately one
hour of study / homework
• Therefore for a 20 hour course you will also need
10-20 hours at home / library study. Plan for this.
• There will be a library session later in the morning to
explain the features of the library and how to use the
facilities provided for students.

TAFE card
• Student identification and stored value card which is
given to all enrolled students.
• It contains your name, student number, a
photograph and is used for library borrowing, travel
concession and discounts at many business and
entertainment venues.
• It contains a reloadable “purse”, which you may use
for photocopying and parking.

• You must carry your TAFEcard at all times when on
college premises.
• You will need to show it as identification to sit final
exams.
• If it is lost or stolen, report this immediately to the
administration office. Replacements cost $20.

attendance at classes.

• Most units have a workbook which you can access on
the wiki and print.
• Most teachers will ask you to print the learning
materials and lecture notes before the class.
• If you need to buy a text book, google for best prices
and delivery cost.

• If you have previous computer skills, Microsoft Word,
Excel or MYOB please discuss with your teacher in
the first couple of weeks.
