Donald Bren School of Information & Computer Sciences Enrolling in Courses The 5 W’s of Enrolling: 1. WHAT am I enrolling in? You will be enrolling in your Fall quarter courses based on academic advising today. It is important to have your schedule mapped out and cleared by an academic counselor in order for you to enroll. 2 & 3. WHEN and WHERE will I be enrolling? You will be registering on a computer with an internet connection after this session. 4 & 5. HOW and WHO will I be enrolling? You will be registering for classes on a system called WebReg. WebReg is UCI’s secured internet response registration system that allows you to enroll in classes from anywhere in the world using your UCInet ID and password. Access WebReg at http://www.reg.uci.edu You will be registering only yourself for classes. About WebReg: • • • • • • Add or drop a course Change your grade option for a course when appropriate Modify the units in a variable unit class Check your eligibility to enroll Confirm your class schedule WebReg will inform you of any student record holds on your record and the department you need to contact • Accessible 7 days per week, except 4-6 a.m. (scheduled maintenance) • Your enrollment window opens this afternoon. – You may not enroll in classes before then. – Once your enrollment window opens you have 48 hours to access WebReg. After that, while windows are opening for other students, you are restricted to using WebReg during non-prime hours of 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. • If you have problems enrolling using WebReg, call the Registrar’s Office at (949) 824-6124. Searchable Schedule of Classes • The Searchable Schedule of Classes (WebSOC) should be used to find updated information on class times, locations, enrollment numbers, etc. For more information see www.reg.uci.edu. • Enroll using 5 digit course code located on the far right of the course listing • You must enroll for a lab or discussion if it is listed under a specific section of the lecture • ICS and CS majors enroll in ICS and CS courses such as ICS 21- do not enroll in CSE courses • IN4MTX majors enroll in IN4MTX and CS courses- do not enroll in CSE courses Note: 05200 Lec Sec A, you must enroll in 05201-05215 and 05220 Lec Sec B, you must enroll in 05221-05235. Crossing over sections will result in the “co class mismatch” message. Note section A (Code 05200) lecture and Section A1-A12 (Codes 05201-05215) Discussions. An attempt to enroll in lecture 05200 (section A) and discussion 05221 (section B) will Result in the message “CO CLASS MISMATCH” (See the following example) What else do I need to know about enrollment? • If you are receiving any financial aid, you must be enrolled in at least 6 units before it will be given. • The first day of instruction is always the first day of lecture, except for Humanities Core • You may not repeat a course for which you have received credit via AP exam, articulation review, or have received a Pass or grade of C or better. Common WebReg Error Messages • I sign up for my course and after I log out of WebReg, my course(s) gets dropped. Why? – You may not have signed up for accompanying lab and/or disc • I am not able to add a course – You have reached the 18 unit maximum limit (waitlisted units are also applied to this) – Course conflicts are not allowed • I get the error message- prerequisite not met. – You have not met the prerequisite of the course (check your catalogue or student handbook for course prerequisites) – You have completed the prerequisite by AP exam, non-UCI course, petition, or exception to policy. • WebReg cannot recognize any of these course credits • You must get an academic counselor of the department that offers the course to clear you • For Bren School courses, you must either stop by the Student Affairs office or call 949-824-5156 to get yourself placed on the prerequisite clearing list DO NOT WAIT THE DAY BEFORE YOUR WINDOW OPENS TO DO THIS! Prerequisite Clearing and You • The Registrar’s system will not automatically recognize when prerequisites have been completed outside of the University. This means that you will need to receive clearance for many courses before being able to enroll. • Our office has developed on on-line prerequisite clearing form that can be accessed 24/7. • Before your enrollment window opens, look up the prereqs for the courses you wish to enroll in. If you finished any of the prereqs outside of UCI, turn in a request for the courses. https://ugradforms.ics.uci.edu. • DO NOT put in requests for courses you do not need clearance for. It creates extra work for us and slows us down. Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences Academic Honesty Policy Please visit www.ics.uci.edu/ugrad/policies Bren School of ICS Academic Honesty Policy • The following examples are considered as academically dishonest: – Copying during an exam or quiz – Copying a person’s homework – Sharing code during a lab assignment – Sharing notes and problem solutions – Any joint effort when individual effort is required. – Do not assume anything, ask questions.
