Base on The Holy Spirit and His Gifts by Kenneth E. Hagin Three REVELATION Gifts (3 to know) Word of Wisdom Word of Knowledge Discerning of Spirit Three POWER Gifts (3 to Do) Gift of Faith Working of Miracles Gift of Healing Three UTTERANCE OR INSPIRATIONAL Gifts (3 to Say) Prophecy Divers kinds of tongues Interpretation of tongues Word of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge, Discerning of Spirits The Word of knowledge is the supernatural revelation by the Holy Spirit of certain facts in the mind of God. God gives a fragmentary part of the His entire knowledge What the Word of Knowledge is not: It is not a profound knowledge of the bible It is not knowledge of God through close communion with Him Examples of the Word of Knowledge Word of Knowledge to Ananias (Act 9) Word of Knowledge to Peter (Acts 10: 9-19) Modern Examples A Word of Knowledge isn’t just for the Early church, but it for today. Manifestations of the Word of Knowledge Sometime the word of knowledge can come through inward revelation It can come by an audible Voice, by the Spirit of God speaking to you It can be manifested through interpretation of tongues although this is not the usual vehicle It can manifest through a vision, dream, message from an angel, or through the gift of prophecy The Word of Wisdom is the supernatural revelation by the Holy Spirit concerning the divine purpose and plan in the mind and will of God God gives a fragmentary part of the His entire wisdom The difference between the Word of knowledge and the Word of Wisdom: The Word of Knowledge is always present tense or concerning something that has happened in the past The Word of Wisdom always speaks of the future These two gifts were in operation in both the Old and the New Testament Old Testament prophets often operated in these gifts along with the gift of prophecy Old Testament prophets not only prophesied about the present (Word of Knowledge) but they also prophesied about things in the future (Word of Wisdom) New Testament examples include John on the Isle of Patmos, Ananaias, Phillip Manifestations of the Word of Wisdom: It can come through vocal gift of utterance-through prophecy or through tongues and interpretation A vision A dream Audible voice of God How a word of Wisdom is used: To warn people concerning future judgment or peril To reveal God’s plan To give assurance of coming deliverance in the time of calamity Some manifestations are conditional based on obedience The Discerning of Spirits gives supernatural insight into the spirit world “To discern” means to perceive by seeing or hearing It is the same as seeing or hearing in the realm of spirits What Discerning of Spirits is Not: It is not discernment. It is discerning spirits It is not the power to discern faults in others It is not faultfinding It is not just the discerning of devils or evil spirits. It has to do with the entire class of spirits. Within the scope of this gift is Seeing the similitude of God Seeing the Risen Lord Discerning of spirits: divine, satanic, and human Discerning of the Holy Spirit Discerning of spirit can reveal cherubim, seraphim, archangels, or a host of God’s angels Discerning of spirits can reveal the power, whether good or evil, that may be enforcing a supernatural manifestation or influencing a type of behavior “Without even having the discerning of spirits in manifestation, if we know the Word of God and if we are walking in the Spirit, we will have an inward witness if someone is operating by a wrong spirit. The Holy Spirit on the inside of us, in our spirits, will warn us if we are at all sensitive to Him… We don’t need the discerning of spirits to know when something is out of order. We ought to know God’s Word well enough for ourselves to know when somethin doesn’t line up with the Word of God. And we ought to be led by the inward witness.” (Rom. 8:14) Kenneth E. Hagin Faith, Miracles, Healings The Gift of Faith is a supernatural manifestation of the Holy Spirit whereby a believer is empowered with special faith, or wonderworking faith, and it is beyond simple faith. Every believer has general faith or saving faith The Gift of Faith is a gift of the Spirit to the believer in order that he might receive miracles. The working of miracles, on the other hand, is a gift given to believers that he might work miracles One gift receives, the other does something The Gift of Faith is a special gift which is given supernaturally by the Spirit of God, as He wills. Those who operate in special faith, the gift of the Spirit, can believe God in such a way that God honors their word as His own, and miraculously brings to pass the desired result. There are various types of faith . This is a special kind of faith that goes beyond faith for general needs. The manifestation of the gift of special faith can come as a gift of the Spirit after one receives the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The Gift of Faith employs faith that passively expects a miracle as a sustained or continuous action. That means when it is necessary, there is a duration to the gift of special faith—it is ongoing in its action. When the gift of faith is in operation, it may be that nothing is seen at the time to confirm that the person has an answer. Therefore, special faith may carry over a long period of time. The Gift of Faith is a divine gift or enabling by the Spirit of God that causes what is spoken or desired by man, or spoken by God to ultimately come to pass Key Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 The Working of Miracles Defined A miracle is a supernatural intervention by God in the ordinary course of nature; a temporary suspension of the accustomed order, or an interruption in the system of nature as we know it, operated by the Holy Spirit. It is a supernatural act on a natural plane Everyone of the gifts of the Spirit is miraculous; they are all supernatural. But, they are not all the gift of working miracles. When the working of miracles is in manifestation, there is a divine intervention in the ordinary course of nature. Ex. 2 Kings 2:14 The difference between the gift of faith and the working of miracles is that the gift of faith receives a miracle and the working of miracles works a miracle. The working of miracles is used to display God’s power and magnificence. The working of miracles could be called the working of acts of powers. According to the Greek concordance, the Greek word also means, explosions of almightiness or impelling , staggering wonders, or astonishments In other words, the Greek of 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 could read, “To another the working of impelling, staggering wonders or astonishments, or the outworkings of explosions of almightiness and acts of powers.” Quotes Howard Gardner said, “ The working of miracles is a very important manifestation of the Spirit. It is the mighty power of God flowing through a person.” Kenneth Hagin said, “ We might say that when this gift is in manifestation through a believer, he participates in the same power of God that was in manifestation when God created the world.” Discussion Question Why don’t we have more manifestations of spiritual gifts? 1Cor. 12:31 Prophesy, Divers Tongues, Interpretation of Tongues Prophecy is supernatural utterance in a known tongue. The Greek word that is translated “prophesy” means to speak for another. So, “prophesy” can mean to speak for God or to be His spokesman. The simple gift of prophesy should not be confused with the prophetic office or with prophetic utterance that may come forth in the prophet’s ministry. Prophesying is More Than Preaching Some people think that “to prophesy” means to preach. “To preach” means to proclaim, to announce, to cry or to tell. Differences between Old and New Testament Prophets In the Old Testament, prophecy was essentially foretelling, in the New Testament the gift of prophesy shifted to forth telling. New Testament example Agabus in Acts 21:10-11 The Gift of Prophecy vs. The Office of the Prophet The fact that the gift of simple prophecy operates through a person doesn’t make him a prophet. A prophet has more of the gifts of the Spirit in operation than just the gift of prophesy To stand in the office of a prophet, the person must have 2 of the revelation gifts—word of wisdom and word of knowledge or discerning of spirits-- operating on a continual basis in the person’s life and ministry, plus the gift of prophecy. For a person standing in the office of the prophet, a person needs to be called to the fivefold ministry as a preacher or teacher of the word (Eph. 4: 11-12) 1 Cor. 14:3 “But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort.” Many people thing the gift of prophecy is prediction. The simple gift of prophesy is not prediction but is speaking unto men “…to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.” The gift of prophecy is given to edify the Church through exhortation. Exhort means a calling nearer to God or an invitation The simple gift of prophesy is given for comfort. Prophesy is not faultfinding. Comfort, not correction, is the purpose of the simple gift of prophecy. Prophesy may cause conviction of sin The Gift of Divers Kinds of Tongues is a supernatural utterance by the Holy Spirit in languages never learned by the speaker, nor understood by the speaker, nor necessarily always understood by the hearer. Speaking in tongues has nothing whatsoever to do with linguistic ability; it has nothing to do with the mind or the intellect of man. It is a vocal miracle of the Holy Spirit. Purposes of Speaking in Tongues Speaking in tongues is the initial evidence or sign of the Holy Spirit’s infilling presence (Acts 2:4). Speaking with other tongues is talking to God supernaturally. It is your spirit, by the Holy Spirit within you, talking to God (1 Cor. 14:14) Speaking in tongues is a means of magnifying God (Acts 10:45, 46) Speaking in tongues edifies the believer (1 Cor. 14:4; Jude 20) Speaking in tongues is praying in the Spirit (Eph. 6:18) Speaking in tongues allows our spirits the opportunity to pray. (Heb. 12:9; 1 Cor. 14:14) Speaking in tongues fills our spirits with the Holy Spirit (Eph. 5: 18) The public ministry of diversity of tongues is a ministry gift denoting more of a prophetic office, not the devotional gift of tongues. `
