Two Important Processes:

Things to do during enrolment:

1. Before coming to the enrolment venue, open a personal bank account at a local bank 2. Arrive the enrolment venue on the scheduled date/time, bringing along all the necessary documents and duly completed forms.

3. Verification of the original copy of the supporting documents for qualifications claimed in the application form.

A. Open a personal bank account in a local bank

A bank account is needed for future payment of monthly tuition fees and receipt of monthly Postgraduate Studentship

(if any) .

Documents required for opening a bank account:

Hong Kong Identity Card , or Passport with a valid student visa/entry permit;

Documentary proof of your local address in Hong Kong ; and

(for non-local students) documentary proof of address in their home country

 Individual banks may require other additional documents.

B. Arrive at the enrolment venue on the scheduled date/time

Letter of Admission ;

Personal Identity Document (e.g. Hong Kong Identity Card, or

Passport with a valid student visa/entry permit);

A cheque or a casher’s order (made payable to “City University of Hong Kong”) for the specified amount to settle the various payments mentioned in the Admission Notes;

Bank passbook or your ATM card which shows your bank account number;

Original copy of academic certificates and diploma (English version);

Original copy of transcripts/grade reports (English version);

Original copy of English Test Result sheet (IELTS, TOEFL), if applicable;

Completed Thesis Submission Requirement Form

C. Verification of the original copy of the supporting documents for qualifications claimed in the application form

You are required to present the ORIGINAL copy of: academic certificates and diplomas; transcripts/grade reports;

English Test Result sheet (IELTS, TOEFL), if applicable .

Any misrepresentation and/or fraudulent information found Cancellation of

Admission Offer by the

University

D. Payment of Fees

Students are required to settle the following fees in ONE payment at the time of student enrolment: a) First three months’ tuition fee (after deducting the

Acceptance Fee*) b) Graduation fee c) CityU Postgraduate Association (CUPA) membership fee

*The Acceptance Fee (HK$7,016) paid at the time of admission will be credited toward the tuition fee upon successful enrolment.

Pay by cheque or casher’s order or bank draft (Name of

Payee:“City University of Hong Kong”)

We DO NOT accept cash.

Tuition fees starting from the 4 th month onwards will be collected through direct debit from individual students’ designated bank account on the 10 th day of every month.

Insufficient funds/late payment  late charge of

HK$200 per billing and additional charge levied by the bank.

F. Issuance of CityU Student Identity Card

You are required to upload your personal photo when you are doing the online pre-enrolment. This would certainly help shortening your waiting time.

You must take good care of your student identity card during the studies at the University. Student Identity Card which is not transferable to any other person.

Alteration, falsification, or misuse of the Student Identity Card is a violation of the Code of Student Conduct, and will be subject to disciplinary action.

G. What should I do next after enrolment?

Discuss your coursework plan with your research supervisor and submit the completed Form

SGS16within the course add/drop period.

“Teaching Students: First Steps” (course code: SG8001) and “English for the Medium of Instruction” (course code: SG8002)

H.“Teaching Students: First Steps” (SG8001)

Research degree students are required to take a one credit unit course “Teaching

Students: First Steps” (SG8001) to prepare for undertaking the role of teaching assistant.

In order to ensure necessary English language skills for teaching in English, there is a prerequisite of SG8001 in the form of a one credit unit course “English for the

Medium of Instruction” (SG8002).

For students who submitted their IELTS or TOEFL results in their application and achieved:

◦ an overall band score of IELTS of 6.5 or above with a score of the speaking component of 6.5 or above or

◦ an overall score of 79 or above in TOEFL internet-based test or 550 or above in paper-based test or 213 or above in computer-based test with a score of 20 or above in the speaking section of TOEFL iBT or its equivalent in the paper-based or computer-basedTOEFL tests

◦ are exempted from taking SG8002. These students will be directly enrolled to

SG8001.

All students other than those mentioned above will be directly enrolled to

SG8002. Upon completion of SG8002, these students will be directly enrolled to

SG8001.
