Vocabulary Assignment Sheet
We will be using the Sadlier-Oxford vocabulary books throughout the school year. You will be responsible for
teaching, learning, and using these words. Vocabulary units will be studied in 2-week increments using the
following schedule. Class time will also be used to practice word usage in speaking and in writing.
Approximate Vocabulary Assignment Schedule:
Monday
Week 1: Students introduce words through vocabulary presentations
during class (see more information below).
Wednesday
Week 1: Assignment from Sadlier-Oxford vocabulary book due. (To
be announced.)
Wednesday
Week 2: Assignment from Sadlier-Oxford vocabulary book due. (To
be announced)
Friday
Week 2: Quiz on the unit
Vocabulary Presentations:
This year, you will be responsible for preparing and delivering one short vocabulary presentation. The purpose
of this presentation is to introduce vocabulary words to your peers. You will choose your presentation date in
class today. You will complete a 10-slide PowerPoint presentation that introduces ten of the words for a
particular unit. Your fellow classmates will evaluate the effectiveness of your presentation.
Requirements for the Presentation:
1. You must send me your presentation by the Sunday night before it is due. I prefer that you create your
PowerPoint using GAfE and then share it with me. You can also email it to me. Technology issues (i.e.
failed internet connection, lost file, incompatible program, etc) are NOT acceptable.
2. Your PowerPoint will be at least 10 slides long. You will have one slide for each word.
3. Each slide must contain:
a. The vocabulary word clearly displayed in larger font, including part of speech (1/2 point)
b. The Sadlier-Oxford textbook’s definition of the word (1/2 point)
c. At least one graphic or picture that conveys the meaning of the vocabulary word (1/2 point)
d. A sentence that correctly uses the vocabulary word (1/2 point)
4. Presenters will speak clearly and present information in a way that is organized and meaningful to the
class audience.
