Dávalos • Read “St. Ignatius and the Company of Jesus” and completed a project on his life. • Also learned about Abraham and his descendants and their covenant with God. • Students attended the Respect Life Chain on US1. watched a documentary about abortion, adoption and parenting. Willie’s Macaw Contest winner: Oscar Berlanga Invention Convention Halloween Assembly Mr. I. Santa-Cruz In the Intro to Computers class, we covered the basics of word processing, including appropriate layout and emphasis options for different situations. We also covered the insertion and formatting of pictures into documents. When not working on the computers, we covered the history of computers from human “computers” and early mechanical computers through to modern times. We reached the 1984 introduction of the Apple Macintosh computer and associated GUI-based OS. Mr. Mike Crudele • Impressed with enthusiasm of 6th grade! • Learned how to use Microsoft WORD. • Completed a final report on computer history. Mr. I. Font • Art assignments downloaded in Artsonia. • Created posters • Self-portrait drawing collage • Photo Club: participated in the Autism basketball clinic. Mr. C. Dreeson • Students complete video interviews on how music enriches our daily experience. • Brief overview of music history –from Motown Records to American popular music. • Practiced music for Mass. • Clubs: – MS Praise & Worship: 32 members praising and worship our Lord through song. • Commended Students: Esteban Guío, Andrés Concepción Ms. M. Urbay • Learned the importance of team work. • Learned how to work handle their instruments. • Performed at the Belen Gala. • Commended Students: Julián Arabitg and Ernest Barral Mr. F. Padura • The students did an outstanding job on their monologues. They worked very hard and proved that they are up to the challenge. • Belen Junior Thespians once again qualified for the State Festival of Feb 11-12. Top in District, Critic’s Choice: Jaime López and José Pelegrí. Anthony Padura, Rafael Cariello, Pablo Arévalo, Ignacio Pérez and Ghulian Ramos received Superiors in their respective categories. Physical Education • • • • • • Learned how to stretch properly. Participated in Water Polo and Basketball Learned rules and history of sports. Held 6th grade tryouts Participated in Thanksgiving weekend tournament. Tested for skills in Water Polo and Basketball. – Held tournaments for each – Winning team received extra credit • Weight Training Program – Trained and assisted football, baseball and basketball teams. New Student Orientation Sixth Grade Lock In Homeroom Dynamics Skills Assembly Mini Olympics Mix It Up Middle School Clubs • ALPHA Clubs Picaresque assembly and 108 went to see musical Oliver among many other activities. • Belen R-C Club: created and organized by Jossan Elias. Meet weekly and hold car-rallies in central patio after school. Robotics Club • The Middle School Robotics team participated in three World Championship Qualifier events. They did well at all three events, improving their robot between competitions. At the Disney All-Stars Competition in November, the Middle School team finished the first day of qualification matches in 1st place! They came very close at all three events to qualifying for the World Championship, a feat they finally accomplished at the Ransom Everglades Qualifier in January. Middle School Sports • MS Football: two teams, 7th and 8th, future plans for 6th • 6th Grade Soccer Team: completed season with record 7 wins, 1 tie, and 0 losses! 64 goals for the season. ACC champions. • MS Cross Country: 2nd Place in State Championships Middle School Sports • The JH Swimming team – Most successful squad…went undefeated! – First place at Westminster Christian, Gulliver, Belen Jesuit, MS Private Championships & Dade County Youth Fair. – Outstanding swimmers: Ryan Guso, Santiago Nunez • The JH Football team – Finished with a record of 5-2. • The 6th Grade Cross Country Team – Finished in 5th place at ACC. – Top runners was Mickey Moreno. Middle School Sports • The Junior High Cross Country team – First place at Flrunners.com Invitational, Tri-County Championships and Arch. Carroll. – Finished in 2nd place at ACC, Catholic State, Ransom and St. Theresa. – Top Runners: Matthew Mullin-Garcia, Antonio Montadas, Lorenzo Laurita and Bruno Zayas. • The 6th Grade Soccer team – Had a record of 7-0-1 – Won the ACC Championship.
