God made me. Why did God make me? God made me to know Him, love Him, and serve Him in this world, so that I can be happy with Him in the next. ……....Who stays focused on the goal Have I entered into a personal relationship with Him? Have you ever thought about what eternity is? What we do in this little time on earth determines where our eternity will be If today was my last day on earth, am I at peace with everyone in my life? Mt 6:14-15 Have I multiplied the talents that God has given me? Mt 25 Have I used them for His glory or my own glory? Read Mathew 25: 31-46 ………Who lives as a beloved Son Everything that happens to Jesus happens to us Mark 1:11: When Jesus was baptized; the sky opened up and the Spirit descended upon Jesus; God the Father spoke and said, “You are my beloved Son.” Stop making excuses “Call no man your father” Mt 23:19 ………Who lives as a beloved Son Isaiah 43:4- “You are precious in My eyes, you are honored, and I love you” God says “ I have called you by name; you are mine.” “ You are the apple of My eye” Zech 2:8 Psalm 2:7 “I will tell of the decree of the Lord: He said to me, “You are my son, today I have begotten you.” ………Who lives as a beloved Son Intimacy- Into-me-see God is calling us into an intimacy with Him God’s spirit takes control of our prayer and we enter into a relationship. The Spirit’s job is to pick us up and to draw us into a relationship with the Trinity ……….Who repents “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the Gospel” Mark 1:15 Repentance- “metanoia”- “to turn” We have to first start dealing with the sin in our lives 2 Cor 11:14: Satan can appear as “ an angel of light” Lucifer = “light bearer” ……….Who repents Genesis 3:6- The woman saw that the tree was good for food, and it was a delight to the eyes, and that there is something pleasurable in it Three components of sin- something good in it, some thing desirable, and there is some thing pleasurable in it. ……….Who repents The simplest definition of sin is disobedience to God God invites us to either love Him and obey Him or choose to do things our way- choice is between death and life “The wages of sin is death” Romans 6:23 For us sin is not that big of a deal To God it is a very big deal. It cost Jesus His life, and it will cost you your life ……….Who repents Jesus, the perfect man, prayed, “ Not as I will, but as thou will” (Mt 26:39) , to give us an example of how to live as a man! We should not come to God and follow Him for what he is going to do for us or follow Him for the fear of hell When you love God and decide you do not want to hurt Him because you are in a relationship with Him, then your love for God is what is keeping you away from sin ……….Who repents To repent means to make a resolution that we are done with our sins Once you’ve apologized to God, you have to decide to do two things First, you have to pray for strength Second you have to get out of the way Once you have found your core sins, find and memorize the Scripture verses that will help you confront those sins Heb 12:4, “ In your struggle against sin you have not resisted to the point of shedding your blood.” ………….Who lives in the Holy Spirit The key to being a man of God is surrender to the Holy Spirit John 3:5- Jesus answered, “Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit.” There needs to be a B.C and A.D in some one’s life ………….Who lives in the Holy Spirit The greek word for martyr is witness Read and reflect on the book of Romans Romans 8:5- “For those who live according to the flesh are concerned with the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the spirit with the things of the spirit.” Submission to the Holy Spirit is the secret of sanctity God also gives us the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit ………….Who lives in the Holy Spirit Isaiah 11:1-3- But a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blossom. The spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him: a spirit of wisdom and of understanding, A spirit of counsel and of strength, a spirit of knowledge and of fear of the LORD, and his delight shall be the fear of the LORD. ………….Who lives in the Holy Spirit A man surrendered to God seeks God’s wisdom and takes God’s direction. “ You lead me Spirit. Counsel me, Spirit, so I can take the right step.” We then need to listen and surrender. Hebrews 12: 5-6- “You have also forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as sons: “My son, do not disdain the discipline of the Lord or lose heart when reproved by him; for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines; he scourges every son he acknowledges.” ………….Who lives in the Holy Spirit Galatians 5:22-23- “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” The gifts are there as tools to help us to be men, to help is to be the children of God. …Be a man who is strong Holiness is wholeness 1 Cor 6:19- “ Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit.” The biggest addiction is the sexual addiction Job 31:1- “ I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I look upon a virgin?” 3 things that are necessary to overcome lust Good prayer life Good friends Have the heart of a servant …Be a man who is strong Proverbs 27:17- “ Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another”. Look at your own beautiful face, then take out a sheet of paper and simply write on the paper, “ I am third.” Then tape that piece of paper onto your mirror. Then before you go to bed each night, ask yourself, “Did I commit one unselfish act today, one act of service?” …..Who is loving Agape- love of God- total self-giving no matter how you respond to it. I love you whether you like it or not, whether you respond to it or not. Luke 10:27 “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” On the day we die the God of love gives us what we love the most. …..Who is loving This love begins with our families and includes everyone God brings into our lives We love God as much as the person we like the least: Dorothy Day Mt 5:44- “But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you.” God loves the person we do not like, and He said that person was worth dying for. When we saying some one, “ I love you”, we are really saying- “ I will give up my life for you.” …..Who is loving Husbands are called to love God primarily through their wives Do at least one unselfish act for her everyday Write a letter to your wife and tell her that you love her Write a letter to your children and tell them that you love them and why Make to decision to never let your wife or your kids go to bed or walk out the door without telling them first that you love them- life is just too short! ……….Be a man who is wise Grant me the gift of the Spirit and fill me with wisdom Phil 2:5- “ Have this mind among yourselves, which was in Christ Jesus.” Jesus Christ didn’t want people looking at Him, even though He was God. Proverbs 9:10- “ The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” Live to please Him The only thing that should make us afraid is displeasing our Father. …..who lives as He was created St Athanasius of Alexandria- : God became man so that man might become God St Augustine once asked, “ what are the three most important virtues?” Humility Humility Humility Humility means “from the earth.” …..who lives as He was created We are called to be spiritual leaders of our families ……Be a man of prayer ……Be a man of sacrifice …… in the bedroom Main purpose of sex if mutual love and procreation When a man gives his wife his sperms, he is saying to her, “ I will give you my life. Inside of my sperm is all that I am.” The woman opens herself up to the man and is surrendering to him. As givers- men are selfsacrificing. …..who lives as He was created Men are very sexual beings, and because of this, men need to reflect on our sexual lives. If you want to have great sex with your wife, pray with your wife before you have sex with her “ Love can’t wait to give, lust can’t wait to get.” Do you live a life of integrity? Jesus was the ultimate man ………Who is Holy Holiness should be the number one goal in our life Hebrews 12:14 “Strive for peace with everyone, and for that holiness without which no one will see the Lord.” True holiness is a by product of love When we are madly in love with God and his people, then we will be holy. Holiness : set apart Ephesians 1:4-6 “He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him.” ………Who is Holy When God’s will and our will becomes one.” We are holy but we need to grow in holiness “You and I should gladly say to God each day, “ I want Your will done in my life today.” Then no matter what happens to us during the day, each night we should say, “ Thank you, Father, for allowing Your will be done today.” The chief obstacle to holiness is pride …..Who changes the world Before you can bring others to Jesus you have to make sure you are truly His disciples. To be a disciple of Jesus means you have to learn from Him every day John 1: 39 : Jesus says, “ Come and see.” What are some of the things that you are going to do for the rest of your lives? Write them down and make a list of things that you are going to do now for the rest of your life! …..Who changes the world For the next 6 months, spend time with the Gospels Don’t just read, but observe Jesus like the apostles did. Make our goal to mimic the way Jesus lived. As we are observing Jesus, start writing those qualities down that He is calling us to have. “ If you love Me, then I want you to feed My sheep.” Feeding God’s sheep begins with our family, then with our friends and co-workers. …..Who changes the world Make a list of people in your life who do not know Jesus Christ; then start praying for each one of them everyday Love the people on the list. Love them so much that you go out of our way to love them Tell them about Him- What Christ has done for you, and invite them to a relationship with Him References Be A Man! Fr.
