Every region in Poland has also different folk music, food or traditions. That is because country people didn’t travel too much. Natural borders like rivers, mountains limited the mobility and created original separate cultural enclavas.

Outfit of Bytom

Bytom ceremonial dress, also called

Rozbarski, is the most famous folk costume of Upper

Silesia. The custom of wearing this outfit was still vivid to the seventies of the last century.

The boy is wearing a white, linen shirt and a vest decorated with shiny buttons.

Under the shirt he should have a decorative silk scarf called Jedbówka. His pants,

Jelenioki, are tight, yellow and made of chamois. He has got a round, flat cap called

Maciejówka and black leather shoes.

The girl is wearing Galanda, a wreath of artificial flowers and beads hanging over her forehead with a ribbon at the back. The shirt -Kabotkek is a white cloth, decorated with a delicate lace over the neck and sleeves. Girls are wearing long skirts and silk aprons decorated with painted floral motifs. Girls' outfit is complemented with red beads.

Kashubian costume is very colourful with the most visible shades of dark blue sky to symbolize

Kashubian lakes and the sea.

Boys wear a felt hat decorated with a ribbon.

The white linen shirt is covered by a short jacket called Śliwka, or slightly longer tunic, both decorated with embroidery and rows of metal buttons.

Older men wear expensive overcoats too. Pants are made of suede and they have high boots, always polished and shiny.

Married women wear so called

Złotnica, or velvet cap embroidered with gold thread and decorated with ribbons.

The white linen shirt is under the corset decorated with gold or silver threads. Kashubian also wear two skirts: the top one is loose and richly pleated, in vivid colors for young people and in dark for older women. Waist is tied with a white linen apron called

Szertuch. They have black shoes and white stockings and red beads on the neck.

Krakow outfit is the only folk costumes considered to be national. Even

Tadeusz Kosciuszko, was dressed in such clothes during the Uprising in

1794.

The boy wears a hat Krakuska, or red Rogatywka with a bunch of peacock feathers and colorful ribbons. He has got a white linen shirt with a red ribbon at the neck, a long sleeved tunic, decorated with Chwościki and buttons and a white leather belt with studs. On the side of the belt there are decorative plates called Brzękadełka. Pants are to be striped trousers worn tucked into high leather boots. Men have overcoats with red bracts.

Girls have a wreath of artificial flowers with ribbons and a corset with colorful embroidery, and sparkling, multicolored sequins. There is also a floral, lavishly ruffled skirt on a waist covered with a white tulle apron. Shoes are usually black with a red ribbon. The outfit is decorated with natural red beads.

Outfit from Kujawy came out of use long time ago.

Today you can see them in museums and when folk groups perform.

He has got a Katana and a red woolen belt. He has got a blue pants tucked into high leather boots.

Married women wear white tulle cap called Kopka, beautifully decorated wit beaded silk scarf.

Girls wear three skirts. Thel ast one is richly decorated silk one .

There are silk aprons, mostly crimson or blue with white embroidery. And they have got white stockings, laced shoes, and beads.

Kurpian dress is still worn on holidays and during some celebrations.

The boy wears a flat hat decorated with a ribbon and flowers. On a white shirt there can be a short jacket with a black ribbon. The ribbon is also on the neck. Light trousers are put into high leather boots. Moreover, older men wear wool overcoats.

Girlshave velvet hats, decorated with flowers and ribbons. On linen shirt with an oval collar they have Wystek, a waistcoat. The central part of

Wystek is shorter than the rest, and shows the shirt. They alsohave a wide skirt, with an the apron, decorated with white a lace trim. Feet are covered with slippers and there are amber beads on the neck.

Lublin Costume, decorated with ribbons, sequins and beads, is one of the most famous folk clothes.

The man wears a straw hat with a ribbon, a bunch of flowers and peacock feathers. He has got a long white linen shirt, a pants and a belt. The belt is decorated with ribbons, sequins, and cut holes.He puts on a satin or velvet short

Kaftan.The trouser are tight and tucked into the boots.

The girl wears a wreath with ribbons.

On a white cotton shirt, there is a collar, cuffs are embroidered and there is a velvet corset. It is decorated with ribbons, sequins, beads, silver plated threads and lace.

On a wide woolen skirt there are stripes and shiny ribbon The have got a short apron with multicolored ribbons. Black lace-up boots have red or green ribbon. There are beads on the neck.

Łowicki outfit is considered to become the model for clothing in other regions.

This beautiful striped dress is still worn during festivals and church celebrations.

The boy wears a falt hat with flowers and velvet ribbon. On a linen shirt called Bielunka which a collar and cuffs are covered with multicolored embroidery, there is a sleeveless vest, decorated with strings. There is also a woolen belt.

The girl, as a married woman, wears a flowered scarf made of silk with flowers at both sides. A collar and sleeves are white and decorated with embroidery. They have got a white shirt decorated with flovers on the sleeves and a skirt called Zapaska which is combined of few skirts of different length. Mid-calf boots are put on white stockings.

Highlanders are proud of their customs.

They wear their outfit on every occasion.

The Highlander wears a flat black hat made of felt, covered with shells called on a red ribbon. White linen shirt has wide sleeves. Highlanders pants are fitted to the waist with a wide leather belt and to the legs with shoe laces. The outfit is complemented with an ax - Ciupaga.

In spring and summer girls have their heads uncovered but having flowers as a decoration.

The shirt is white and there is a ribbon and a corset, usually red. A skirt should be long with a floral motif Under her skirt girl wears a white petticoat, and she should have moccasins on her feet, and red beads on her neck.

Szamotulski outfit has it charm and elegant colours.

During the partitions it was a sign of Polish culture.

Today we can admire it during concerts and folk festivals.

Boys have black, flat hats with a ribbon. On a white linen shirt, there is a decorative knot with a scarf. They should have short jacket with a row of decorative buttons. They wear knee-long sleeveless tunic, fitted at the waist, decorated with brass buttons. Bright trousers are tight and put into the boots.

Girls wear a tulle cap. Married cap is slightly larger than one of single woman. A linen shirt is called

Kyzka. The corset is fitted to the waist. It is decorated with a white ribbon, gathered in small folds.

The top skirt is the widest and the longest.

In the eighteenth century,

Poland was the only country in

Europe where not only people of lower classes, but also the upper classes people had their traditional outfit. It was called

Kontusz.

The man was wearing high cap or hat

Rogatywka called Konfederatka. Cap was framed by a fur rim, decorated with a tail and a brooch. He had Zupan with a row of small, decorative buttons. A characteristic feature of the coat called

Kontusz, were cut out sleeves ,Pętlice several loops around shining robe and long silk belt with gold thread. He was wearing baggy pants tucked into soft leather boots with upturned noses, dyed yellow or red, called Baczmagi.

The woman was wearing a fur cap with a split front rim, decorated with feathers and a jewel called Kołpaczek. The dress or the skirt was covering feet, or went to the mid-calf and it was covered with

Kontusik. Kontusik was finished with a fur.

Our region is not only famous for beautiful mountains, horrible witch Baba Yaga on

Lysa Gora but also for its beautiful yet quite simple outfit.

The most popular cap for men is called Maciejówka. The collar of white shirt is decorated with a red ribbon, and there a short cardigan with rows of shiny buttons on it. Men wear long brown homespun Sukmana and pants tucked in high leather boots.

Women wear floral patterned scarf on their head, with flowers at both sides in case of unmarried ones. A collar and cuffs of a shirt are white. They have got short, woolen vest corset, tied with a red ribbon.

There should be a woolen skirt, which is either plain or striped, with a woolen apron. Boots are mid- calf and leather.

Rogatywka, also known as

Czarmka, slightly retracted to the right temple. He has got silk or velvet Zupan, with decorative buttons and long, silk belt decorated with tassels. Trousers are tucked in high leather boots.

He has got Czamara, coat, decorated with buttons.

Girls look like princesses. A married woman wears a golden hat, decorated with gold thread , beads, sequins and lace, with decorative ribbon that falls on the back. A white shirt has got a tulle collar covered with white embroidery. A velvet corset is decorated with embroidery and sequins. Girls wear several skirts. They have got a tulle shawl or a scarf which covers almost the whole figure. Velvet shoes complete the outfit.
