1 Surge # 2 The Power of P.I.F 9:00 Sign In for Surge 9:05 Start Surge Hey Good morning guys! I hope all is super well with you today! This morning we are going to start off right away. So I need you to rearrange yourselves into groups in a moment. I realize that most of you are help out in more than one area, but for today the first area that you’re volunteering in, I’d like you to sit in that group okay? If you are in the Youth band, I would like you over here. If you are in helping out in clubs in some form, I would like you over here and if you are out during Kids Church I would like you over here. All right sweet. Now I need you to find a partner and we are going to get the blood pumping a little bit because it’s the morning (Play “Can’t Touch this” Power Point Game”) Team Time Before we get into today’s lesson. I want you to do a small debrief. In your areas. So here’s the deal, every month I do something with the youth leaders called Frosty Talks, and its where I buy the youth leaders frosts and we talk about what we see God doing in the youth group. They are my favorite youth nights because its where I get to see the Lord move in powerful way. So here’s what I want you to do. In your groups right now , I want you to think about the areas you’re involved in and I want you to share any wins you’ve seen over the last month. A win is anything you cool you seen happen in any area that you’re volunteering in (Play TP Game) (Fill out Check Ins) 2 Lesson All right, so this morning we are going to talk about three habits that make leaders awesome. When we lead and when we serve we need to know as a group of regular known as Pif people. It’s a weird word isn’t it? What Does it mean to people be of the PIF. The PIF has power. If you can master the art and skill of the PIF. You will see God use you in some super amazing ways. If you can make the PIF a part of your regular rhythm, you will really enjoy serving in whatever area you’re volunteering in. So what is the PIF? When we are volunteering, we want to be people who are prepared. In the Moment and people who Follow Up. Another of saying that is we want toddy we are going to talk about happens Before During and After an event that you’re helping in. So Lets Pray. Be Prepared So let’s talk about the first thing. Coming to prepared. What area we are volunteering it is super important to come prepared. Why might it be important to come to clubs, or worship Night prepared? I remember when I first started as the youth pastor, I sucked at getting things prepared. My first year, I would plan for youth I would spent my Wednesdays going, “What are we going to do for youth?” And I would literally think of what we doing two to three days before the event. Here’s the problem with that, if an emergency came up, like the bus didn’t run, or someone had some happen in their life that they needed to talk to me, then youth group didn’t get planned, and I never got the talks done, So I was always spending the first couple hours before Friday trying to think of something to say and it was awful. 3 I want to show you what I do now. Every July I spend the whole month planning every Friday Night down to the hour. Then every month I give the youth leaders these. By coming prepared like that it helps me deal with emegenceis and it helps me focus on the most important thing people. When you are serving people matter most when you serving, not so much getting a job done. People matter more than works, but when you and I don’t come to clubs, or the Nursery prepared, (what do we do when come not prepared?) We Scramble General Preparedness 1) Prepare your heart 2) Come Early to help set up 3) Give notice if you can’t make it 4) Find someone else to take your responsibility Coming Prepared for Cubs You’re in a right relationship with God Pray Before Hand 6:00 prayer time Watch the Curtis`s You tube video Coming Prepared for Kids Church Double Check the dates your scheduled for Phone Ahead if you can`t make it 4 Prepared for Worship Practice your music Prepare your heart Come early to set up Be In the moment` Next What helps is that we are in the moment. What do you suppose it means to be in the moment. This is the one that I struggle with the most. What do you suppose being in the moment? Being in the moment means that at that point in time your whole word is focused on the people you are there to serve. It means the only thing that you are focused on is them. That nothing at else matters except them. I really struggle with this one. Here’s why I struggle with this. When it’s Friday Night or Sunday Morning, there is so much going on. So sometimes what happens is someone will come and talk to me and they are sharing something deep and I am thinking that there is a kid over there in the corner of the gym who no one has talked to. Or the juice isn’t made and instead of being the moment my mind is everywhere. Being focused on you job is hugely important. Here are so In the moment in Clubs I recognize a student leader when I see someone serving in the task most people run from. I look at the person and think, “she’s either a leader or she’s being punished for something. A leader serves when no one else will help. Imagine the scene Josiah has just come up with a really, really sweet gym game, But it involves lot, of ice cream. And everyone is cleaning up the gym floor but over in the corner is an overload garbage can of ice cream bowls and plastic spoons. You see it and immediately categorize it under the heading of “Gross”. What someone who is in the moment do? They do the job no 5 one else is doing. You will become a stronger student leader every time you do something no else is willing do . When you give extra attention to the tasks that are unnoticed you’re an encouragement to all the leaders around you Don’t sit on chair waiting for someone to tell you to do something Go up to whoever is in charge and ask what Can I do? Look for kids and play with them! Sit with the During their small groups Look for what’s not getting done Follow Up Leaders Follow up. Ministry is about people not programs. Sometimes the temptation is that when we are done our job we are done ministry. If you’re involved in ministry you’re always on (Liz work story) (ADC or Worship Band) (Ask Ideas for Follow up) Ideas for follow up Clean up. Follow up means if you can you stay till after the mess in cleaned up. When we stick together we rejoice together in our common tasks and commitment. That’s so much better than the typical scenario of one person doing all the work and leaving the church feeling lonely tired and a little bitter (Talk to kids outside of clubs and Sunday School) (Pray For them)( Sit with them) 6
