your focus?
Uhura: Xenolinguistics. You have no idea what that
means.
James: The study of alien languages, morphology,
phonology, syntax. Means you’ve got a talented
tongue.

• Xenolinguistics means the study of alien languages.
• Morphology in the field of linguistics means the
study of word forms and word relationships.
• Phonology means the study of speech sounds of a
language.
• Syntax means arranging words together to make

• Hybrid means mixture, in this case part human, part
machine. Synonyms: amalgamation, composite,
fusion.
• Cortex translates as bark in Latin and refers, in this
case, to the outer layer of the front part of the
brain, so it’s like the bark of the front part of the
brain.

• Vengeance means revenge. Synonyms: reprisal, requital,
