Project: Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Goal Promote UAS technology for applications that benefit IEEE AESS members UAS Trends and impact • Three UAS presentations: NJIT 12 March 40attendees, OKC 30March 41 attendees and Wichita, KS 20 attendees . Presentation planned at Bonn, Germany on 22 Sept. • Monitor UAS competition projects and request AESS Board support to support Universities to compete. • Determine current UAS interest and engagement by AESS Chapters. Project Success - Metrics • Increase UAS activity for AESS to grow membership by 5% annually 1 Progress Milestone Work with AESS Chapters to promote UAS activities and provide topic speakers. Contact UAS Industry leaders about sponsoring events and advertising in AESS Systems magazine for special issue. AUVSI and UAS magazine have stronger presence. AUVSI engaged in DASC 2016 and this may enable future cooperation and benefits Target Completion % Complete 30 April 2015 50% show interest in UAS 1 October 2015 33% of the survey complete IEEE/AIAA 35th DASC2016 Sept 25-30, 2016 Sacramento, CA Budget / Resources The 2015 AESS budget includes $1,000 funding for the technical panels. Additional funding may be requested as new initiatives. Unmanned Aircraft Systems Competitions 2016 Established by the Association for Unmanned Vehicles Systems International, the AUVSI Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides students with hands-on robotics activities designed to fuel and sustain their interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Since the competitions began in 1991, more than $1.4 million has been awarded in prize money.
