LESSON 10-6: CIRCLES & ARCS
Students will find the measures of central angles
and arcs. Students will find the circumference
and arc length.

Central angle: an angle whose vertex is the
center of the circle.
TYPES OF ARCS
PRACTICE!
MEASURES OF ARCS
ARCS


Adjacent arcs: arcs of the same circle that have
exactly one point in common.
Arc Addition Postulate: the measure of an arc
formed by two smaller arcs is the sum of those
two arcs.
PRACTICE!
CIRCUMFERENCE


Circumference: distance around the circle
Pi: the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its
diameter (𝜋).

Approximately 3.14
ARC LENGTH

Arc length: fraction of the circle’s circumference
𝑎𝑟𝑐 𝑚𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑢𝑟𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡
𝑎𝑟𝑐 𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑡ℎ =
∙ 𝐶𝑖𝑟𝑐𝑢𝑚𝑓𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒
360
CIRCUMFERENCE & ARC LENGTH

For each problem, find:
The circumference of the circle
 The measurement of the red arc
 The length of the red arc

Leave all answers in
terms of pi!
STEP IT UP!

It is 5:00 p.m. What is the measure of the minor
arc formed by the hands of an analog clock?
