SONNET 116
Let me not to the marriage of true minds
_________________________________________
Admit impediments. Love is not love
_________________________________________
Which alters when it alteration finds,
_________________________________________
Or bends with the remover to remove:
_________________________________________
O no; it is an ever-fixed mark,
_________________________________________
That looks on tempests, and is never shaken;
_________________________________________
It is the star to every wandering bark,
_________________________________________
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
_________________________________________
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
_________________________________________
Within his bending sickle's compass come;
_________________________________________
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
_________________________________________
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
_________________________________________
If this be error and upon me proved,
_________________________________________
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

Sonnet Directions: Now that you understand the basics of a sonnet, you have to write a Shakespearean
Sonnet prologue for one of the major literary pieces that we have read this year. (East of Eden, TKAM,
Of Mice and Men, Anansi Boys, Year of Wonders, Ender’s Game). Make sure to follow the generic
makeup (rhyme scheme, meter, quatrain function, etc).
Due: Tuesday, February 17
