A Look at Rick Riordan
Creator of the
masterful Percy
Jackson novels
RICK RIORDAN
born on June 5th, 1964
In San Antonio, TX
He has been writing for as long as he
can remember - he even sent his first
story in to be published when he was
only 13 years old
(…they said no)
He is also married with two sons…
…. They all love his stories!
RICK RIORDAN
…& his life before the Percy Jackson novels…
Rick Riordan was a middle school teacher for 15
years. He taught:
Social Studies
Language Arts
&
Mythology
to 6th, 7th, & 8th Graders..
RICK RIORDAN
…& his life before the Percy Jackson novels…
While he was teaching, Riordan also wrote mystery
novels for adults. Tres Navarre was the main
character.
His students were always
curious about the books he
wrote, but Riordan strongly
urged them to wait until they
were older to read them.
Usually they read them anyway.
Riordan says he could always
tell because they looked at him
funny after that.
Inspiration for Young Adult
Novels
Riordan always told his sons magical bed time
stories made up of Greek and Norse myths. One
night he ran out of stories to tell, and his son
asked him to make up a new story with the same
characters…
That was the moment that Riordan created his
beloved character Percy Jackson and a
#1 New York Times best-selling series was born!
Riordan’s son Haley has ADHD and dyslexia,
just like Percy Jackson.
Riordan says that Percy shows everyone who
has ADHD and/or dyslexia that
it’s not bad to be different.
Percy Jackson & the
Olympians
These fantasy novels
are appealing to lovers
of fantasy or those new
to the genre.
The stories center
around Percy, a

And his journeys to
save Olympus and the

The Lightning Thief
Twelve year old Percy Jackson
is about to embark on the
most dangerous quest of his
life. Zeus’s master Lightning
Bolt has been stolen and Percy

Olympus. This book is full of
twists & turns and perfectly
mixes entertaining
mythological stories with
