Be Still My Soul
Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side.
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change, He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: thy best, thy heavenly Friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
--------------
Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertake
To guide the future, as He has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know
His voice Who ruled them while He dwelt below.
--------------
Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on
When we shall be forever with the Lord.
When disappointment, grief and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past
All safe and blessèd we shall meet at last

TIME
Honor your father and your mother that your
days may be long in the land the Lord your
God is giving you.
(Ex 20:12)
…and in your offspring shall all the nations
of the earth be blessed, because you have
obeyed my voice.
Gen 22:18
“Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my
voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my
treasured possession among all peoples…
(Ex 19:5)
If you keep my commandments, you will abide
in my love, just as I have kept my Father's
commandments and abide in his love.
Jn 15:10
Note then the kindness and the severity of
God: severity toward those who have fallen,
but God’s kindness to you, provided you
continue in his kindness. Otherwise you too
will be cut off.
Rom 11:22
See, I have set before you today life and good, death and
evil. If you obey the commandments of the Lord your
God that I command you today, by loving the Lord your
God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his
commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you
shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will
bless you in the land that you are entering to take
possession of it. But if your heart turns away, and you
will not hear, but are drawn away to worship other gods
and serve them, I declare to you today, that you shall
surely perish. You shall not live long in the land that
you are going over the Jordan to enter and possess.
Dt 30:15-18
God promises blessing for obedience and
warns of suffering for rebellion.
• God created everything “good”
• Adam committed evil anyway
• God imposed the promised curse
• God imputes Adam’s sin & sentence to us
• We also commit evil on a daily basis
• We bear Adam’s guilt, our guilt, and the curse
The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and
abounding in steadfast love. He will not always
chide, nor will he keep his anger forever. He does
not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us
according to our iniquities. For as high as the
heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast
love toward those who fear him; As far as the east is
from the west, so far does he remove our
transgressions from us. As a father shows
compassion to his children, so the Lord shows
compassion to those who fear him. For he knows
our frame; he remembers that we are dust.

TIME
• Do I have an accurate view of God?
• Do I have an accurate view of myself?
• Do I understand the evilness of sin?
• What do I deserve from God right now?
• Have I received what I deserve?
• Is my heart accepting or rebelling?
