Ecologist Travel Brouchure-Accelerated Due Friday December 16th, 2011 For this assignment, you will be designing a travel brochure intended to entice an ecologist to come and visit a certain biome on the planet. You will be using Microsoft Publisher to design and print your finished product. Your final product does have to be in color, but will help to earn you the highest possible grade. If you would like to produce your own brochure outside of Publisher, you may do so, but anything beyond contruction paper and glue will be your responsibility to provide. You may choose a specific biome that fits into one of the following categories: Tundra Taiga Temperate Deciduous Forest Temperate Grassland Desert Savanna Tropical Rainforest Ocean Please select a specific place, like the “Amazon Rain Forest” or the “Sonoran Desert”. You will probably need to google the general biome to find a specific place. MAIN PARTS OF ASSIGNMENT: What are the biotic (living) and abiotic (non-living) factors o Explain the climate and the geography Explain some of the types of plants and animals live there (Species diversity) o Specific information about some of the more unique species of the biome What are some of the relationships between the organisms of the biome o Predator-Prey relationships (who eats who?) o Mimicry (do animals try to look like others?) o Plant-Animal interactions o Parasites (all biomes have specific parasites) o Mutualism (co-evolution) How does energy flow through the biome (who are the producers? The consumers?) o A food web is a great way to show this What is the climate like (temperature, precipitation, seasons, length of day) How might the ecologist need to acclimatize his or herself o High altitude, hot/cold weather, dry, humid, sunny, lack of light, etc. Accelerated Extension! Must include a climatogram specific to your biome Must include a food web of organisms within the biome There can be no more than one picture per page You will have three days in the computer lab to complete this project, which should be more than enough. You should spend one day doing research and the other two days designing your brochure. Please keep a list of your resources as you go. You will turn in your resources along with your project at its completion. A rubric will be provided to you on 12/6/2011.
