Literacy
This term our main text will be ‘Where the
wild things are’. We will be labelling a ‘wild
thing’ and drawing our own story mountains to
help us sequence the story and retell it to
each other. We will continue to practise
writing and saying our phonic sounds to make
words. Using our story mountains, we will have
a go at writing the story and trying to use all
of our phonic sounds to make the words
readable.
Expressive Arts and Design
Linking to our topic we will be making our
own ‘wild thing’ puppet and designing and
making a crown for Max. We will use stick
puppets in the puppet theatre to retell the
story of ‘Where the wild things are’ and
use the role play masks to act out the
story. Following our school trip to Longleat
we will look at different wild animals
around the world and explore different
instruments that can be used to make
music to resemble them.
Communication and Language
During our show and tell sessions we will
be practising using the past, present and
future forms correctly.

Term 6
Where
the Wild
Things
Are!
Maths
During our maths sessions this term,
we will continue to act out, and write
maths stories using ½ and whole digits.
We will be learning what ¼ is and will
start to use this in our maths stories.
We will also be learning to tell the
time as well as looking a data handling.
Physical Development
This term we will be practising
our running skills in preparation
for sports day and we will be
visiting the gym weekly to take
part in gymnastics.
RE
This term we are thinking about what makes us special and how we
can make others feel special. We are going to be visiting the church
and role playing a baptism.
PSED
After reading our main text ‘Where
the wild things are’, we will be
talking about behaviour and
consequences as well as dreams and
whether we have had any. We will
think about the types of things Max
would pack in suitcase for his
adventure and then we will write our
own list of things we need to
remember when we go on our school
trip.
Understanding the World
We will start the term looking at the
different landscapes and which ones
feature in our main text. We will think
about what wild animals there are
around the world and what kind of
landscape surround them. Our
investigation area will be floating and
sinking. We will investigate which
container Max could use to send a
message home across the sea to his
mum.
