Job Description:
My main function as a Veterinary Technologist is to perform the specific procedures that allow Medical, Veterinary Doctors, Research Specialists and Scientists to perform the more complex Surgical and Analytical processes in the Research Laboratory:
Assists in various surgical procedures, including surgical preparation, anesthesiology, pre and post-operative care, routine animal care, etc.
Experienced with surgical equipments including anesthesiology and basic hemodynamics.
Experienced with computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and basic database programs e.g. JAX-CMS and Facility.
Performs routine observation and charting of physiological data and animal health status as required by GLP standards, perform accurate and timely record keeping consistent with the maintenance of all quality standards and client expectations.
Performs client specific study data collection according to protocol.
Operates, maintains and calibrates laboratory equipment in accordance with established quality control procedures.
Provide nutrition for animals by supplying feed & water.
Assess animal health status by gathering and documenting data and observing animals in their environment to detect and report abnormal conditions.
Sanitize, organize and maintain animal cages and equipment by operating cage washer, tunnel washer, bedding dispensers and autoclave. Sanitize corridors and support areas using appropriate techniques to promote animal health and welfare and to comply with policies. Perform maintenance and ensure proper operation of equipment and machinery in cage wash.
Collecting, recording, and maintaining updated data to facilitate management of the facility.
Handle and restrain animals by using appropriate techniques to allow for the care and research to be performed in a safe and humane manner. Receive and transport animals using appropriate methods.
Receive and properly process various shipments from loading dock.
Administer treatments, euthanize animals and provide assistance during special procedures under the direction of Scientists facilitating research and/or clinical activities.
