LANGUAGE LAB This year we are continuing integrate our activities with our language lab. Our lab consists of 30 computer stations, or carrels, with attached headphones and microphones. We use this space to develop their skills in the target language. Teachers are able to provide students with a variety of materials: both audio and audiovisual. Students are able to interact with and receive feedback from not only the teacher, but other students as well. WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY IN FRENCH CLASS? We try to speak French as much as possible every day, I conduct the majority of the class in French and students should be prepared to respond in French to the best of their ability. Homework is given only when meaningful and is never “busywork”. Students should expect one assessment per week-there are several types: written and oral quizzes, reports, projects, and skits. Each day in class we practice the 4 skills of foreign language learning: listening, speaking, reading and writing. We play games, watch movies, listen to music, practice grammar, work with partners, do projects, learn about culture, have guest speakers, and sample French foods. FIELD TRIPS French 2 classes will study French Impressionism and will visit the Art Institute of Chicago as a culmination of the unit. French 3 classes will visit the Alliance Française which is a French school in downtown Chicago. They will view a movie in French and cook with a French chef in their test kitchen. AP French will discuss some possible options for field trips this year as a group and decide what we feel is most beneficial to our learning.
