be understood. The best way to understand people is to listen to
them.”

IS THIS YOU?
This is much more than a sympathetic ear, it can also be a way
forward to explore and find your way forward.
The Listening Service is located at Southend Evangelical Church,
Guildford Road, Southend SS25AR.

No-one ever listens to me.

I feel as if I am always ignored.
My issues never get discussed because people just won’t listen.
If that’s how you feel, we can offer you a chance to talk to someone
who really does know how to listen.
Gary Clarke is a trained counsellor with experience of both
counselling and listening. The Listening Service will not offer
counselling, but will give people the opportunity to talk through
their problems with people like Gary, who have a lot of experience
in “listening “ roles.




The Listening Service is a drop-in listening service for
anyone who is worried, anxious or distressed and wishes to
speak to someone in confidence
We can also offer advice about other organisations in the
city
The Listening Service is not a professional counselling
organisation, but all volunteers have a lot of experience in
‘listening’ roles
A chance for real change
You may be searching for professional counselling/therapy
and not know where to start. We may be able to point you
in the right direction.
You don’t have to have an appointment, just come.

You may be waiting for an appointment for
counselling/therapy and want to talk in the interim period.
We believe that many people feel isolated simply because people
don’t stop and listen to them.

An opportunity to be heard and understood, empathy in
action.
Any one of us can experience crises in our lives; we may lose a job,
or a relationship might break up. We can be carrying feelings of
anger, frustration, fear or sadness. Unless we find someone to
listen to our problems, they never really go away.

There is NO CHARGE for our service. It is absolutely free.
This is where we come in with our Listening Service.
