Unit 2 Test: Branches of Government.

Format: multiple choice, matching or true/false.
What to study from each of your assignments/notes:
 U.S. Constitution and Key Principles
o Know all vocabulary
 Legislative Brancho Bicameral, how representation is determined, Jobs of Speaker of the House
 The Job of a Congressman
o Bipartisan, Constituents, know the highlighted information
 How a Bill Becomes a Law
o Pigeonholed, public hearings, markup sessions, what the Rules Committee does, the idea
that an identical bill must pass through both houses of Congress before being sent to the
president, If a bill goes to the Senate, it is voted on in the ordered received, filibuster, the 4
options a president has if he receives a bill.
 Executive Brancho You will need to be able to match up the bold roles of a president with what it means (For
example, match Chief Diplomat with “deals with foreign relations/treaties)
 Supreme Court
o Study all highlighted material
 Judicial Branch in a Flasho trial/district courts, appeals courts, Supreme Court, criminal vs. civil law, judicial review
 Checks and Balances
o I will provide you with a situation and you will tell me a way another branch can “check” it.
o For example:
 Congress just passed a bill that only allows people to wear white during
February. How can another branch “check” this?
 Possible answer: Executive branch can veto it
 Possible answer: Judicial can declare it unconstitutional
 Branches of Government Organizer
o On your test you will have a blank organizer and a word list. You will be asked to fill it in
o On my website I have a blank organizer and a word list that you may wish to open side by
side and drag and drop the answers into the organizer for practice
o I also have hard copies available for practice
