Key Measurement: GDP
1. Due Monday January 26.
a. Read carefully pages 102-106 that revisit the Circular Flow and note that
there is a simple “closed” depiction and a more detailed one that “opens” the
economy to include international trade and the financial markets (stocks and
bonds). Pre-read the remaining pages of the chapter.
b. Continue to work toward completing Economics in the News, research stock
market choices, etc. Use my teacher game codes for research.

helpful links: Go to Resources. Outside links. I like Bloomberg, The Street (a
favorite of students), and Yahoofinance. I will distribute your codes to you on
Monday and you can meet with groups during AO (call it a Stock Investment
Club perhaps?), to begin investing. The dates for the Alabama Game are:
January 26 through April 6 and the dates for the Capitol Hill Game are:
February 2 – May 8. Don’t forget to bring your $4.00 if you are
participating in the Alabama Stock Market Game!

Key Measurement: Inflation
1. Due Extended Day February 4/5.
a. Pre-read Module 14-15.
b. Go to the following inflation calculator http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl and
create three “stories” about prices. For example, Henry Ford paid his workers
$5.00 a day in 1914. That is the same as paying a worker (approximately)
$107.00 in today’s dollars. For other “stories” ask your parents about their
first job, first car, first house, etc. Consider asking them what the hospital bill
was when you were born. Have fun! Homework Grade.
