Addiction and Trauma “A Personal Growth Experience with the Therapeutic Spiral Model” Martha Peirce, M.S.Ed. of PennRose Associates will host Dr. Kate Hudgins and the TSM Team for a residential workshop WHEN: Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 6:30pm to Sunday February 2, 2014 at 2:00pm WHERE: Hamilton, Ontario In today’s world of stress, pressure, and trauma, it is a rare person who has reached adulthood and not suffered a personal, community, or cultural trauma. When this happens, we all turn to our defenses to deal with feelings that cannot be expressed at the time and often they progress into addiction. Co-dependency, addictions to food, alcohol, drugs, or other process addictions such as gambling, overwork, and shopping are all defenses against these feelings of anger, grief, loneliness, shame, and terror. This workshop gives people with abstinence the opportunity to begin, or progress their treatment of the underlying stress and trauma that maintains their obsessions and compulsions toward addictive substances and processes. Using the Therapeutic Spiral Model aligned with the 12 Steps, we will create a safe group for you to gently explore underlying traumas and feelings that are related to your addictions in order to not only stay abstinent but to learn how to truly live in recovery and beyond. In this workshop, you will learn how to: · build strengths and resiliency to make your life better · honour your defences and then find new healthy coping skills for stress · face the underlying traumas that feed eating disorders and addictions safely and without being triggered · fully move into thriving in self-care, self-esteem, relationships, and work Kate Hudgins, Ph.D., TEP is an American Trainer, Educator, and Practitioner of Psychodrama, Sociometry, and Group Psychotherapy with a PhD in Clinical Psychology.
