West Central Ag Sales Association Scholarship This scholarship is available to students who are seniors in high school or to students who are already enrolled in an Ag program at a post-secondary institution. Applicants must live in the West Central Ag Sales Association areas or plan to attend school in this area. This trade area is defined as Hwy 14 on the south, Hwy 15 on the east, Interstate 94 to Hwy 27 on the north, and the Minnesota border on the west. UMW-University of Minnesota – Waseca Alumni Association Scholarship The Southern School of Agriculture (SSA) and the University of Minnesota – Waseca Alumni Association is pleased to announce the availability of scholarships to current high school seniors whose parent or grandparent is alum of the University of Minnesota – Waseca or the Southern School of Agriculture. Drake University Department of Physics and Astronomy 2015 Drake Physics Prize Examination This examination is open to any student enrolled in a high school in Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska, and will cover those topics in physics which would normally be studied by students during their First Semester of their high school physics curriculum: mechanics, gravitation, fluids, heat, and thermodynamics. A four-year unrestricted, full tuition scholarship to Drake University will be awarded to the student with the top score. Additionally, the top 50 seniors are invited to apply for a second full four-year scholarship restricted to a physics or astronomy major at Drake University. Albert Lee Wright, Jr. Memorial Migrant Scholarship To honor a migrant farmworker student who has overcome barriers presented by mobility, who has performed strongly academically, and who has provided service to his/her community. NASDME intends this scholarship (for at least $3000) to go to a mobile student or students who have attended more than one school in a year and/or who have traveled on their own or with a parent or guardian in pursuit of qualifying agricultural, agriculture-related, timber or fishing work in the summer or regular school term. These scholarships are to be applied only toward the expense of tuition, books, or similar fees, at an accredited institution of higher learning. Each scholarship will be paid directly to the school in the amount of $1,000 for any one year. Satisfactory progress must be made with grades reported to the Department of Minnesota. Candidates for this award must be a member of the American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary, or the Sons of the American Legion and shall have paid dues for the two preceding years and for the calendar year in which the application is made. Applications must be received by February 25, 2015 American Legion Auxiliary Past Presidents Parley Health Care Scholarship The Past Presidents Parley Health Care Scholarship, a one-year scholarship for $1,000.00, has been established to assist needy and deserving students or adults to commence or further their education in any phase of the health care field including the entire medical, nursing, and dental support fields. Minnesota Women’s Golf Association This scholarship is a $3,000 per year renewable for four consecutive years which totals $12,000, and it is made available to high school senior girls residing in Minnesota and planning to enroll in a four year college program the year the application is submitted. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of scholastic rating, financial need, and school achievements, leadership, and activities. Although skill or excellence in the game of golf in not a criterion, candidates shall demonstrate an interest or involvement in the sport. The applicant must have a grade point average of 3.2 or above, and a copy of the submitted FAFSA form must be included showing the parents income level for the past year. Application deadline is March 31, 2015 by 4:30 PM Clean Air Choice Biodiesel Essay Scholarship The American Lung Association in Minnesota and the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council are inviting any interested high school seniors to apply for the Clean Air Choice Biodiesel Essay Scholarship. The rules are fairly simple: current high school seniors in the state of Minnesota with plans to attend postsecondary education are eligible to submit a brief (1,000 words or less) essay on the topic of biodiesel. Two scholarships will be awarded. The first place essay writer will receive a $1,000 scholarship; the second place essay writer will receive a $500 scholarship. All essays and application materials must be submitted to the American Lung Association in Minnesota by 4:30pm on Friday, April 3, 2015. Alert Magazine “Speak Out” Scholarship In order to qualify for this scholarship, applicants must currently be a senior in high school, must have a GPA of 2.5 or better, and must have plans to attend college after graduation. This $500 scholarship consists of writing an essay (650800 words, double- spaced) about a personal encounter you or someone you know has had with drug and/or alcohol abuse, how it was dealth with, what you learned from it, and what was right or wrong (in your opinion) about the way the incident or problem was handled. Scholarship essays are judged on the same criteria that essays written for a high school English class would be, i.e., thesis statement, supporting content, grammar, punctuation, etc. No application is required and there is no deadline.
