HW: Highlight important phrases from Cornell Notes Wednesday, September 26, 2012 Time Frame: 1 day TEKS Covered: 8.5 BC I can: identify similarities within groups on the periodic table. Anchor Activity: WU – Element Riddles; Periodic Table Families Activity. Students will each be given an element with descriptions of its properties. They will then group themselves based on common properties and then list on chart paper their similarities. Each group will then present their similarities to the class. Students will answer the reflection question in their science notebook. Differentiation: Students will create a popplet to compare and contrast two groups from the periodic table. HW: Complete Cornell Notes Questions. Thursday, September 27, 2012 Time Frame: 1 day TEKS Covered: 8.5C I can: interpret the parts of the periodic table. Anchor Activity: WU- Periodic Table Coloring; Find someone who game. Then students will complete Understanding Valence Electrons. Differentiation: Play the QRC Elements game on iPad to review elements on the periodic table. HW: Periodic Table of Elements Concept Map Friday, September 28, 2012 Time Frame: 1 day TEKS Covered: 8.5D I can: recognize chemical formulas. Anchor Activity: WU – Cornell Notes Summary; Modeling Compounds activity. Students will cut out elements to form compounds to glue in their science journal, along with recording the name and chemical formula of each compound. Students will read a short excerpt on Compounds. Chain notes for reflection questions. RM 37 – Practice writing Chemical Formulas Differentiation: Students will create a popplet to compare/contrast molecules and compounds. HW: Have a great weekend!
