PHILIPPINE HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION Honor and Professional Association of Historians of the Philippines Founding Member: International Association of Historians of Asia Regular Member: Philippine Social Science Council; National Historical Commission of the Philippines; National Commission for Culture and the Arts To From Re Date : : : : School Heads/Deans/LGU Cultural and Tourism Officers Philippine Historical Association Invitation to the 2014 PHA Annual Conference June 2, 2014 In observance of History Month, the Philippine Historical Association is pleased to announce its 2014 National Conference to be held on August 28-30, 2014 at Holy Angel University, Angeles City, Pampanga in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. With the theme “KASAYSAYANG PAMPOOK: PANANALIKSIK, PAGTUTURO AT PAGPAPALAGANAP”, the conference aims to gather historians, history teachers, local history researchers, cultural heritage experts and cultural affairs officers of local government units, to share and be updated on new local historical studies, strategies and best practices in conducting local history research, in teaching local history in the new K-12 curriculum, and in designing projects and programs to propagate local history, culture and heritage. Local history mirrors the forces that move national consciousness. The Manila-centered national history has been the pattern in the writing of Philippine History until the early 70’s when John Larkin pioneered writing local history with his book, The Pampangans. The research, writing and historiographical studies of local history provides the materials for teaching it either as a course or an integrative part of teaching Philippine History. There will also be lectures on Apolinario Mabini to commemorate his 150th Birth Anniversary. Registration Fee (covers conference kit, copy of Historical Bulletin, snacks and lunch for August 28-29): Conference Conference and Heritage/Culinary Tour Only of Pampanga on August 30 (includes AM Snacks and Lunch) Discounted rate: Registered/ Paid on or before 2,500.00 3,500.00 August 15 Regular rate: 3,000.00 4,000.00 Payment can be deposited at any Banco De Oro (BDO) Branch [Account Name: Philippine Historical Association; Bank Account Number: 004558003041].
