Intermediate Algebra focuses on recognizing, describing, and generalizing patterns to make predictions. You will be interpreting results, making conjectures, and using mathematical reasoning to solve problems using knowledge and understanding of the topics studied. Through inquiry-based learning we will be investigating patterns of graphs, tables, equations, and the context in the world around us. We will also focus on explanations of our understanding through writing. UNITS COVERED THIS YEAR Statistics Advanced Solving Inequalities Exponential Models Functions Transformations Quadratics Probability GRADING Proficiency on MN Mathematics Standards LEARNING TARGETS will be the major way in which students are assessed in math. Students are expected to achieve a proficient score on each learning target. This means students will complete learning target assessments until they meet proficiency on the learning targets. We will follow the Minneapolis Public Schools grading scale as shown below: A = 93-100 B+ = 87-89 C+ = 77-79 D+ = 67-69 A- = 90-92 B = 83-86 C = 73-76 D = 63-66 B- = 80-82 C- = 70-72 D- = 60-62 All grading is based on total points earned. Quizzes & Exams Classwork, Participation Homework Below 60 = Does not meet proficiency. 70 % of grade 20 % of grade 10 % of grade You are expected to complete every assignment. My role as your teacher is to help you achieve this goal. ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS Polars are: Prompt You are in class and in your seat when class begins. Prepared You have your notebook, pen/pencil, and homework on your desk when class begins. Positive You give your best effort at all times and ask for help when needed. We are here to help you.
