COURSE DESCRIPTION
Intermediate Algebra is a yearlong course that follows the Linear Algebra/Algebra 1 course. Intermediate
Algebra focuses on recognizing, describing, and generalizing patterns to make predictions. You will be
interpreting results, making conjectures, and using mathematical reasoning to solve problems using
knowledge and understanding of the topics studied. Through inquiry-based learning we will be
investigating patterns of graphs, tables, equations, and the context in the world around us. We will also
focus on explanations of our understanding through writing.

GRADING
Proficiency on MN Mathematics Standards LEARNING TARGETS will be the major way in which students are
assessed in math. Students are expected to achieve a proficient score on each learning target. This means
students will complete learning target assessments until they meet proficiency on the learning
targets.
We will follow the Minneapolis Public Schools grading scale as shown below:
A = 93-100
B+ = 87-89
C+ = 77-79
D+ = 67-69
A- = 90-92
B = 83-86
C = 73-76
D = 63-66
B- = 80-82
C- = 70-72
D- = 60-62
All grading is based on total points earned.
