Option 3: Research Paper
Guideline for Students:
You will spend the next several weeks writing a research paper about a Georgia topic we’ve studied this year. You will need to choose 1 of the following topics to complete your portfolio. On the final due date, you will be expected to turn in your paper. Please do not just hand me a bunch of loose papers. All aspects of the final rubric will need to be included in order to receive full credit. This will count as a TEST GRADE. If you choose not to complete this project, you will
NOT pass my class this semester.

Elements of your paper:
~Must be typed in 12-point, Times New Roman font
~Must be at least 1000 words
~Must include a title page
~Must include a bibliography
Your paper is due no later than Monday, May 19, 2014
Topic 1: Georgia’s Geography
Write an opinion paper on the following topic: Should the Chattahoochee
River still be used as the main source of Atlanta’s drinking water? If yes, why? If no, why not and what should be used instead? Choose your side and support with facts learned in this unit and research.
Topic 2: The American Revolution
Write a paper on the following topic: How do the principles of the
Declaration of Independence apply to the American people today?
Give examples!
Write a paper on the following topic: How did the Colonists show their
displeasure with British taxation? Use plenty of detail!
Topic 3: Native American Removal from Georgia
Write a paper on the following topic: The Yazoo Land Fraud and its’
aftermath: how and why did it happen?
Topic 4: The Civil War
The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War for both sides.
Write a report that describes how this battle benefitted the Union and demoralized the Confederacy.
Topic 5: Reconstruction
Research the life of Henry McNeal Turner. Write a biography paper about him.
Topic 5: The New South
Research the 1906 Atlanta Race Riot. Write a paper about the event. Be sure to include how it started, how long it lasted, location, and any other important details about the event.
Topic 6: World War II
Write a paper about the history of the Bell Aircraft plant in Marietta.
Be sure to describe it from its beginnings to today.
Topic 7: The Civil Rights Movement
Research the life of Dr. Benjamin Mays. Write a biography paper about
him. Be sure to include his influence on a young Martin Luther King, Jr.
Topic 8: Local Goverment
Compare and contrast Stockbridge’s government with another local
city. Write a paper about your findings.
Topic 9: Georgia’s Economy
Write a paper on the following topic: How have Bernie Marcus and Arthur
Blank helped contribute to Atlanta’s success as a tourist destination?
