Context and Purpose particular to the role:

As part of GLF School Improvement Team our Aspiring Headteacher and Associate Headteacher work closely alongside an existing Headteacher and their Leadership Team. They will be supported in developing their own expertise whilst supporting and contributing to the effective leadership and management of the school within which they are placed. She/he will carry out his/her professional duties with due regard to the provisions of the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document and within the range of teacher’s duties set out in that document, the policies and requirements of the

Governing Body and current education and employment legislation.

This job profile is subject to annual review and may be renegotiated and modified in response to the changing needs of GLF Schools.

The core purpose of this role is:

The Aspiring Headteacher and Associate Headteacher will support professional leadership and management across GLF Schools. To achieve success for all members of the school community within a culture of continuous innovation and rigorous review, the Aspiring Headteacher will:

 support the Executive Headteacher, Head of Primary Education and Headteacher by contributing to vision, leadership and direction

 promote excellence, equality and high expectations of all children in both academic and extracurricular achievements

 deploy resources effectively to achieve the school’s aims and to support and develop its distinctive ethos as a primary school in the local community

 evaluate performance and identify priorities for continuous improvement

 carry out day-to-day management, organisation and administration

 create a safe and productive learning environment that is engaging and fulfilling for all students and staff

 exploit modern technologies and education initiatives to enhance achievement

Key Responsibilities

1. Main purpose

To provide strong, innovative and collaborative leadership in partnership with the

Headteacher

To fulfill the duties of an Aspiring or Associate Headteacher in accordance with GLF

Schools’ vision in promoting effective learning for all children

To work in partnership with the Headteacher and the Leadership and Management

Team (LMT) in providing the vision and leadership to create, maintain and develop the conditions which enable children and all staff to achieve the highest standards in learning

To work collaboratively with other school leaders as appropriate

To have high ambition for schools which you are supporting or leading

To be committed to the leadership and management of innovation and change

Build positive relationships with key stakeholders including staff and parents where appropriate

2. Main duties and responsibilities

To ensure that the entitlement of all children is met through inclusion in all areas of school life

To take an active role in children’s social, emotional and educational development

To ensure positive behaviour management strategies supporting all children’s social and emotional aspects of learning

To actively contribute to the policies and aspirations of the school, providing inspiration and support to the ongoing development towards being an outstanding school

To provide for the learning experiences of all children and staff across the school and use the outcomes effectively to improve learning for all

To lead by example demonstrating an enthusiastic approach to the development of a personalised and innovative whole school curriculum

To lead areas of strategic planning which identifies priorities and targets for ensuring that children achieve high standards and make progress, increasing teachers' effectiveness and securing school improvement

To lead the school’s effective use of assessment and target setting to track underachieving children and support the SENCO in the planning for intervention

To coordinate the induction of students, volunteers and any visitors to the school

To support, develop and challenge newly qualified teachers during their induction period

To work in partnership with the Headteacher regarding the effective deployment of physical resources

To work in partnership with the Headteacher and governors to recruit staff of the highest quality

To support the Headteacher in the efficient deployment of all staff

To work in partnership with the Headteacher in ensuring that policies and practices take account of national, local and school data and inspection and research findings

To work in partnership with the Headteacher and LMT in monitoring, evaluating and reviewing the effects of policies, priorities and targets through classroom observations and planning

To communicate effectively at all levels with children, staff, parents, governors, outside agencies and the local community

To act as line manager for the purposes of Appraisal for appropriate staff

To attend and lead governing body meetings and prepare reports in conjunction with the Headteacher as appropriate

3. Leading and managing staff

To be responsible for leading and developing colleagues’ performance so as to maximise the progress of all children

To create, maintain and enhance effective working relationships amongst all members of the school community

To set targets, monitor performance and review the progress of staff according to the appraisal cycle of the school

To lead curriculum initiatives that support the development of enriched and innovative experiences

4. Learning and teaching

To ensure that learning and teaching is at the centre of the school’s decision-making

To teach within the framework of present and future school policies, paying particular attention to the policies for equality, safeguarding of children, special educational needs and behaviour for learning

To follow all assessment procedures in line with school policies and guidelines

To plan and prepare both long and short term work for the needs of each individual

To monitor the children’s progress through rigorous tracking procedures that evaluate progress and achievement

To communicate and consult with families of children, reporting to families following the school’s procedures

5. School ethos

To foster in the children a sense of responsibility and caring towards the facilities of the school and its environment

To establish and maintain good relationships with colleagues, children and families

To plan and develop a classroom environment which will be stimulating and conducive to a range of activities and promotes a variety of learning styles

6. Staff development

To plan and implement shared professional development – in consultation with the

Headteacher – offering guidance, support and advice to colleagues in this area

To attend appropriate courses, disseminating information, keeping staff updated of developments

7. Resources

To audit and order resources, monitor funds linked to the School Development Plan and within the budget allocation

To ensure that the procedures for the storage and use of resources are efficient and effective in supporting the work of the school.
