Adding Sociology 31, Sociology of Gender to AA T degree in Sociology at LAMC. It would be
beneficial for students to have a greater number of areas in Sociology to explore, as they
complete their requirements to transfer and obtain an AAT degree. Class will be listed in
List A choices.

Program
Statement of Program Goals and Objectives: The Associate in Arts in Sociology
Description: for Transfer provides the student with a strong foundation in the discipline, as
well as breadth of exposure to various areas included in this field. Sociology
majors are given opportunities to develop a broad understanding of core
sociological theories and the methodological skills used to evaluate human
behavior and social organizations. Sociology provides an intellectual background
for students considering careers in business, social services, public policy,
government service, international non-governmental organizations, foundations,
or academia. Students interested in transferring and/or completing an Associate
in Arts in Sociology for Transfer should meet with a counselor to determine the
coursework necessary to complete the requirements for general education and for
the major.
Program
1) Evaluate the merits of sociological research methods (e.g., interviews,

case studies, field work, content analysis, and survey design); select

and apply these methods to formulate and investigate well-reasoned
sociological research questions.
2) Compare and assess the features of the major sociological theories and
perspectives of human behavior and social situations.
3) Demonstrate the ability to be academically successful in at least two
separate areas of sociological emphasis (Marriage and Family, Race and
Ethnic Relations, Crime and Delinquency, Social Psychology, Social
Problems, and/or Gender).
