PRESS RELEASE
ZONE D.P.M.X: The World’s First Wearable Power Meter
A power meter which will revolutionise power measurement for cyclists launches at
Interbike today September 10th.
ZONE D.P.M.X is the world’s first wearable power meter. And priced at $999, ZONE D.P.M.X
is the power meter which puts the single most important training metric of all – wattswithin reach of all cyclists.
ZONE D.P.M.X genius is its wearability. There are no parts attached to the bike. “Switching
bikes is ridiculously simple,” said its inventor Barry Redmond, “you get off one bike, get on
another, and ride. That’s it”.
“From best bike to winter bike to turbo, unclip, move your head unit, clip back in and go –
and your power meter goes with you.”
ZONE D.P.M.X is designed and made without compromise. Power is measured
independently, with separate readings for left and right pedal strokes. It’s a lightweight at
35grams per shoe.
The power meter can be installed at home following easy step by step instructions.
ZONE D.P.M.X users, known as Zoniacs by the power meter’s makers, Brim Brothers, get
readouts of Total Power, Power Balance and Left and Right power on ANT+ enabled devices.
ZONE D.P.M.X also reports cadence. “So that’s one fewer sensor on your bike,” says
Redmond.
But it’s ZONE D.P.M.X wearability which is likely to transform the power market industry.
“We know that many serious cyclists own more than one bike. We know that riders who
own multiple bikes want power measurement on all their bikes. And we know that until
now, that ambition has been time-consuming, expensive, confusing or just impossible”.
“ZONE D.P.M.X solves the problem. And at a very competitive price,” says Redmond, CEO of
Brim Brothers. “It really is power for the people.”
The key to ZONE D.P.M.X total portability is its inspired design. A sensor plate located within
the shoes’ cleats measures force applied through the complete pedal stroke.
ZONE D.P.M.X discreet pods, located on the top of the shoe, work out the watts and reports
the readings via ANT+ to compatible head units.
Redmond is a keen cyclist and highly experienced electrical engineer. Like all the best ideas,
the inspiration for ZONE D.P.M.X struck him whilst out on his bike.
“I had been turning over the idea of a better power meter in my mind for years. It seemed
to me that the single biggest improvement yet to be made in the field was complete and
quick portability. Putting a sensor in the cleat is the best way of doing that.”
As soon as Brim Brothers announced development of the idea, the Irish-based start-up was
swamped with inquiries from interested cyclists. Redmond decided early on to keep
potential customers informed of the product’s development.
“It has been a longer development process that I envisaged. But what sustained us
throughout was the remarkable levels of interest and engagement from cyclists.
“People really wanted this product to be available. And now, I am delighted to say: It is.”
Redmond is rewarding the faithful who have shown interest in ZONE D.P.M.X from the
beginning. Initially, ZONE D.P.M.X will be available to customers who have pre-registered.
ZONE D.P.M.X is showcased at Interbike where it can be found in Booth 1085 Redmond will
be available for interview and demonstrations.
“We will be pushing the button on the next production run shortly after Interbike,” said
Redmond. “We know there’s a lot of pent-up demand for ZONE D.P.M.X and we will be
doing our best to fulfil it over coming months.”
ZONE D.P.M.X facts





ZONE D.P.M.X uses piezoelectrics to measure force and a secret algorithm to
calculate watts.
ZONE D.P.M.X consists of a sensor plate which attaches to the shoes’ soles, a pair of
base units which attach to the shoes’ closing strap, and a pair of removable pods
which attach to the base units.
The pods, which have a battery life of up to 15 hours, are rechargeable on a supplied
dock.
ZONE D.P.M.X broadcasts on ANT+, making it compatible with many cycle computer
head units.
ZONE D.P.M.X was conceived, developed and tested in Ireland – a rainy country. It is
fully weatherproof.

ZONE D.P.M.X measures left and right power independently through the whole
pedal stroke.
Accuracy is rated at +/- 2%
Initially ZONE D.P.M.X is compatible with Speedplay ® Zero pedal systems. Versions
compatible with other major pedal systems are in development.
ZONED.P.M.X is updateable and configurable using ZONE D.P.M.X Controller
software supplied.
Installation and calibration for ZONE D.P.M.X are simple processes performed by the
user.
Brim Brothers CEO Barry Redmond has more than 30 years’ experience in electrical
engineering. He is a competitive cyclist and an active member of Orwell Wheelers
Cycling Club and the Irish Veteran Cyclists Association.
Power facts





Many, if not most, serious cyclists have a power meter on their wish-list.
Many are deterred by expense, technical complexity, and critically, the inability to
quickly and easily move power meters between bikes.
The measurement of power output in watts is an essential part of almost all
structured training regimes.
Power meters are in widespread use by professional cyclists. Training with power is
highly effective in improving performance, and especially effective in maximising
training time.
Power is an objective, repeatable metric unaffected by variations in terrain or
climatic conditions. It is the gold standard metric for effective training.
