Dear Students, Teachers, and Parents,
Looking for a progressive, social justice based and youth centered environment with age appropriate
curriculum designed for students? This year's 14th Annual White Privilege Conference presents ...
The YOUTH ACTION PROJECT! YAP is a unique program within the conference, designed specifically for
high school youth. YAP provides an engaging, experiential exploration of the manifestations of white
privilege, white supremacy, and other forms of oppression and privilege for high school youth.
What will youth do? They will be empowered to ... See-Name-Act-Proceed, "SNAP!" Students will SEEK
and gain awareness, knowledge and understanding of the various social identities that shape our lives and
structure society. Students will learn to NAME the manifestations of the multiple systems of oppression
and privilege which impact each one of us, in varying ways. Students will learn to see their own
experiences within a set of larger social dynamics.
Students will ACT by learning skills to take strategic, effective, and creative measures to dismantle white
supremacy and other systems of privilege and oppression as they work together, across their differences,
through dialogue, reflection, and guided activities.
We will mentor students on how to PROCEED as leaders, planting ongoing seeds of change. As change
agents, students will leave with an understanding of what it means to be an ally when organizing and
creating sustainable partnerships.
Who is YAP? A diverse national team of experienced facilitators with backgrounds in education who
provide a safe, challenging, and fun space, geared toward youth of ALL cultural backgrounds.
When, Where & How to SNAP with YAP? Register youth for the 1-Day High School Institute, April 10, 2013
and/or the 3-Day YAP Conference, April 11-13, 2013.
The YAP Emerging Scholars Program: High school students 16 and older enrolled in the 3-day YAP are
encouraged to participate in our Emerging Scholars Program, providing additional opportunities for
learning, growth and leadership.
The Emerging Scholars Program has two components:
1) The opportunity to develop a publication for our journal. We encourage YAP participants to
consider sharing their creative work and reflection through our Youth Voices platform in our online journal, Understanding and Dismantling Privilege. Youth Voices is designed to provide a forum
for youth to share their poetry, art, essays, etc. that tackle the subject of privilege. Emerging
Scholars will have the opportunity to work with mentors to develop a final
product. www.wpcjournal.com

2) Academic Opportunities: Emerging Scholars participate in a college course offered by University
of Colorado Colorado Springs to complement the YAP experience: WEST 2900: The Intersections
of Privilege: This college level academic course for high school students (age 16 and older) is a
fabulous opportunity for adolescents to get a head start on college. We are able to offer this special
class at a very low tuition rate. The academic credits, offered by the University of Colorado
Colorado Springs, should transfer to most universities and colleges, and demonstrates students’
abilities to succeed in a college-level course. The course is designed to expand upon the learning
that occurs at the conference. You can find details and a course syllabus at:

This is a fabulous opportunity for adolescents to get a head start on college, and looks great on college
applications!
