Explore its features by reading and trying out the boxed descriptions. 1. Go to the links on the left hand side of the page: > Global trends (1) / Wealth & Health of Nations (2) This graph shows how long people live and how much money they earn. 2. Click the play button (3) to see how countries have developed since 1800. 3. Explore more of Gapminder World: Browse ‘example graphs’ (4) learn to select indicators and country bubbles Your assignment: 1. You will need to look at data for 3 countries (9). Once on the site, toggle between chart (7) and map (8) to find 3 countries Make sure you examine ONE developed country (MDC), ONE developing country(NIC) and ONE less developed country(LDC) from TWO different regions of the world (such as Africa AND Europe or Asia AND Latin America), and do the following using the Gapminder website/software: List COUNTRY 1 _________________________ (More Developed/DEVELOPED) List COUNTRY 2 _________________________ (Newly Industrialized/Emerging) List COUNTRY 3 _________________________ (Less Developed/DEVELOPING) 2. Mapping development indicators Start by selecting Map (8), and looking for patterns by selecting different development indicators (on the right side) for your selected countries. 2 PATTERNS YOU SELECTED TO EXAMINE (choose wisely) 1. ______________________________ 2. __________________________________ 3. Correlating development data Select Chart (7) and compare different indicators, for example Life Expectancy and Income. Analyzing trends a. Try choosing Life Expectancy and analyzing changes over time (select Time for the x axis.) Track your selected countries by selecting them, clicking the Trails box and playing the animation.
