Course Description
Designed for ESL students who are enrolled or plan to enroll in computer courses. This course
includes reading, vocabulary, study and test-taking strategies, written and oral communication skills in
preparation for computer classes. This course includes an introductory, hands-on experience with
Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Student Learning Outcomes
1) Speak, read and write about computer and business technology content.
2) Use critical thinking skills to complete assignments in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and
PowerPoint.
3) Use appropriate study skills and test-taking strategies when completing coursework.

The basis of your grade will be determined using the following:





Skill Demonstrations (You will be asked to show knowledge of ability) – 45%
Exams (Multiple choice tests, short answer tests) – 20%
Class participation (Actively engaging with topics in class) – 15%
Writing (The content you generate for each written assignment) – 10%
Attendance (Showing up to class and being on time) – 10%
