Elbasan is a city in central Albania. It is
located close to Shkumbin River. It is one
of the largest cities in Albania.
Elbasan is an ancient settlement, an
important road junction.
Elbasani region is well known for the
good tradition in education, often called
‘the cradle of education.

“Aleksandër Xhuvani” University of
Elbasan dates back to the year 1909,
December 1, when the first National
Teachers’ Training High School opened its
doors, (called in Albanian: Normale), which
trained teachers for elementary schools,
who were spread all over the areas where
Albanians lived.


In 1971 it was transformed into the
Higher Pedagogical Institute
 On November, 1991, it got the status of
University.
 The university is named after
Aleksander Xhuvani, an Albanian
philologist and educator from Elbasan
city.


Teaching Methods

University of Elbasan emphasizes dynamic
student-centred teaching methods in all of our
academic programs. Each class session is a
combination of review, new material, asking
questions, completing homework tasks,
presentations by the students, project work, etc.
Student-centred teaching also means that the
workload is evenly distributed throughout the
academic term. All courses are focused on the
practical implementation of all the theory lectured
at University.

University Library
The Library is located in a separate building
behind the main building of the University. Most
of the literature needed for studying can be found
there. Various materials, books on different
disciplines, manuals, teachers’ dissertations,
student diploma thesis, magazines, newspapers,
and others aim at fulfilling the needs of students
and faculty staff. The materials are arranged
according to subjects and themes.

The Information Center

The Information Center provides the students with
information about studying in general at the
university. It provides the students with the structure,
the curricula, the syllabi, brochures, leaflets,
textbooks, on all kinds of matters relating to the
studies at UE. This center also deals with
registrations, making appointments, filling out various
kinds of documents for students, confirmation of
admission, reference documents, databases on
educational programs available here, etc.

Student Council





UE has a Student Council. It is an active student
body that represents all students.
Students have their representatives in the
Faculty scientific Council and in the Senate
They act as a bridge between students and
faculties staff, and bring the voice of the
students as well.
Some of its activities are: workshops, evaluation
sheets for teaching methods, for syllabi, for
improving student life in the dormitory, etc.
It also organizes field trips, tours, social events,
etc.

Office Board









This office works for the whole university in the field of International
affairs.
It organizes activities with visiting scholars, guest lecturers, deals with
designing projects, promoting partnership, etc. Some of the services
