Renfro Lesson Plan
Unit Title: Force and Motion
Unit Big Idea:
Essential Questions:
What is force? What is the difference between balanced and unbalanced force? How does force affect matter in motion? How is motion measured? How
is Force measured? What is the relationship between speed, velocity, and acceleration? How does force affect gravity, inertia, and friction? What are
simple machines? How do simple machines influence work?
S8P3. Students will investigate relationship between force, mass, and the motion of objects.
a. Determine the relationship between velocity and acceleration.
b. Demonstrate the effect of balanced and unbalanced forces on an object in terms of gravity, inertia, and friction.
c. Demonstrate the effect of simple machines (lever, inclined plane, pulley, wedge, screw, and wheel and axle) on work

Students will
complete a review
labs on Force and
Motion. This will
include gravity,
inertia, balanced and
unbalanced force,
and simple machines.
The students will complete
their review labs as they
prepare for the post test
on Thursday.
Students will take the post test on
Force and Motion.
Students will take the pre test on
Energy. Once completed, they
will begin working on the
vocabulary for the Energy unit by
creating a flip book, digital flash
cards, or any other method of
study material they choose.

Students will read
pp. 218-222 then
complete a graphic
organizer using their
vocabulary words.
They will then
watch a clip from
Brainpop.com and
a discussion will
commence.
Students will complete a
handout that allows them
to demonstrate their
understanding of the
purpose of the six simple
machine and they work
they do. Once
completed, it will be
reviewed in class. Next,
students will be
introduced to inquirybased labs they will be
experience over the next
several days to explore
simple machines and
work.
