Skills Development Corporation (ISDC) was the knowledge partner for this event.
With a target of skilling nearly 50 crore youth by 2022, there is an urgent need to create a wider
understanding of the skills development ecosystem. One of the key pillars of this is deeper
dialogue between government and private sector for improved policy making. In this context, it is
imperative to develop a shared understanding of various aspects of Skilling India, particularly
amongst decision makers guiding the implementation of various schemes.
This course was designed to stimulate interactions on contemporary issues facing policy makers in
designing robust frameworks for implementation. Participants were given an overview of the
policy environment on skills and training. The programme structure took them through

Private sector partners like ISDC, TMI, Talent Sprint, SREI - Sahej and SkillPro shared their
training models as case studies, highlighting the various aspects of skilling India
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. M V Rao, Director General – NIRD, who shared the
importance of Skilling India and the role of central and state government institutions regarding the
same. The participants interacted with Industry leaders such as Ms. Sangita Reddy, Joint
Managing Director - Apollo Group and Mr Ramoji Rao, Chairman - Ramoji Group, who shared the
skills specific requirements and challenges for their respective sectors. More than 30 speakers
from diverse background shared their experience and covered the skills requirement for various
sectors i.e. Media & Entertainment, Healthcare, Hospitality, IT/ITES, Automotive, Agriculture,
Construction and others.
Speaking on the successful completion of the workshop, Mr. Atul Bhatnagar, Chief Operating
Officer, NSDC said, “This was a very interesting and interactive session that we managed with the
help of the Department of Economic Affairs in Hyderabad. There were some interesting questions
from the members and also some interesting propositions. I am sure this five day long workshop
will help harness skill development in many divisions where the cadre is operational.”
Despite what has been achieved in the past few years, there is a scope for improvement and
innovation which can trigger large scale, collaborative implementation that will position India as
the Skills Capital of the world. Engaging senior officer on the nuances of skill development shall
improve the policy making leading to creation of outcome based skilling programmes across India.
