Professors are encouraged to promote this program to their students. The next deadline for applications is April 15, 2009. Typical assistance provided by mentors has been: • Career advice • Reviewing a paper for publication • Advising on a grant application • Offering to host a short-term ASM International Fellow Mentor volunteers come from all over the world, representing all fields of microbiology. Minicourses provide participants with an introduction to the interdisciplinary approach to a particular area of research, permitting them to exchange ideas with leading scientists in their field and with the junior faculty and graduate students selected to participate in the course.
