ATTITUDE AND PARTICIPATION
An attitude and participation rubric will be completed at least 3 times during the semester. This will be
done so you are able to monitor your own learning and behavior in class and will not be included in your
grade. Rather, it will be used as a tool to help you better understand how to do well in class and be
successful. These may be shared with your parent’s/guardian’s during three way conferences.
CLASS EXPECTATIONS
A) MATERIALS REQUIRED
1. Basics: Pencil, ruler, eraser, paper etc.
2. Scientific Calculator with the Trig Functions Sin, Cos, Tan (A CASIO fx-260 Solar calculator is
one that is very good. It’s about $10 and can be found at STAPLES)
3. Three Ring Binder with loose leaf or a coil notebook.
B) HOMEWORK
Practice questions are assigned daily and are intended to help you understand the course material.
Homework Checks will be done randomly. With their textbooks closed students will copy a few of the
assigned questions from their notebook. Parent’s/Guardian’s of students not completing their homework
will be contacted.
C) MATH NOTES
Students are required to copy ALL notes as indicated by the teacher. IF YOU ARE AWAY, it is YOUR
responsibility to borrow the missed notes and copy them.
D) CLASSROOM POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
All of us in the classroom must maintain a respectful, polite, and courteous disposition. Behaviour that
disrupts the learning of others will not be tolerated.
a. When given class time, you will work on the present assignment, not at a later time. If
Foundations Math and Pre-calculus 10 - Mr. Smith, Miss. Kostyniuk
you are done your work for the day, please have something else to do, such as work
from another class or a book to read.
b. Only one person may speak at a time.
c. Food (snacks) and beverages are allowed in the classroom. Beverages must be in a
closable container. Garbage must be disposed in in the proper manner. Not following
these policies will result in the loss of the privilege.
E) Cell phone use is not allowed in class for ANY reason.
F) MP3 players and iPods may be used with permission of the teacher. They may be used
ONLY when I am not teaching and must not disrupt others. If you wish to listen to your MP3
player or iPod, you must give it to me at the beginning of the class and ask for it back when you
are working on your assignment. Not following these policies will result in the loss of the
privilege.
GUIDELINES FOR SUBMITTING WORK FOR EVALUATION
The due dates for assignments/projects will be announced to you in class and posted on the chalk
board. All of your assignments/projects are expected to be submitted no later than the
BEGINNING OF THE CLASS PERIOD (first 5 minutes) on the due date in order to avoid
being assessed a late penalty.
LATE ASSIGNMENTS/PROJECTS:
Late assignments/projects will be deducted 10% for each day that it is late. If an assignment is
more than 5 days late a penalty of 50% will be deducted. Late assignments will still be
accepted up to a week prior to the final exam.
If you are away (excused absence) the day that an assignment/project is due it will be due the
next day that you are in class. If for some reason you are unable to hand in an
assignment/project to me on the due date for reasons beyond your control, please come talk to
me to make arrangements to submit the work.
If you plan to be absent from school on the due date of an assignment/project, YOU are expected
to make arrangements with me to submit the assignment.
PUNCTUALITY AND ATTENDANCE
All students are expected to arrive to class on time and prepared (i.e.: textbook, pencil, paper
etc…). The daily schedule is published in the student agenda to ensure that all students are
aware of the start time for each class and therefore, punctual for each class.
This class moves along very quickly so regular attendance is critical. Students must notify the
teacher if they miss class for any reason and are responsible to make up all missed class work.
In the case of a missed exam it will be the student’s responsibility to make arrangements with the
teacher to write the exam at noon hour or after school upon their return to class (i.e. the next
day).
